After the success of Skyride Manchester, which saw 15,000 cyclists take part, thousands more are expected at The Mayor of London's Skyride in Hounslow this Sunday.
It is hoped the free mass bike ride will encourage people to get back on their bikes and enjoy the benefits of a fitter, healthier lifestyle, and it will give cyclists of all ages and abilities the chance to cycle along a special 10km traffic-free route.
The route takes in parks and plenty of historic buildings and places and organisers are promising a carnival atmosphere.
Children can get involved in Go Ride, where they are taught how to become better, safer riders, and there will be a lakeside picnic ground.
Organised led rides from five different parts of West London will give less confident cyclists the opportunity to join in. Rides will depart from in the morning from Feltham Railway Station, Bushy Park, Teddington, Ealing Town Hall, Ealing, Barra Hill Park, Hillingdon, and Ravenscourt Park, Hammersmith, and they will return in the afternoon.
The event has been organised by broadcaster Sky, with support from British Cycling. The aim is to get one million more people cycling in the next five years by inspiring people through events like the Skyride.
Corin Dimopoulos, Sky’s director of cycling, said: “It’s great to be bringing Skyride to Hounslow, home of Sky’s headquarters for the past two decades. We hope thousands will enjoy the traffic-free route and entertainment we’re laying on, whether they’re cycling novices or regular riders.”
The event runs from 11am-6pm and if you would like to register visit www.goskyride.com
