It already seems like a milestone of the passing year's parcours but the Prendas Ciclismo "Les Mémoires du Peloton" calendar is only three years old with this new edition coming.
The 2012 version goes on sale on the Prendas Ciclismo website November 21st and once again it features the work of Bristol's PhotoSport International photo agency, "the worlds largest and oldest independent cycle racing picture library, since 1972," it says in this press release and we know it's true because the byline of their John Pierce has appeared on top professional bike racing photographs our whole lives.
Pierce comments on this edition, "These digitally re-mastered archive images will take you back to cycling's golden era…it evokes a lot of memories. Even the Tour de France director was besotted, which was a surprise. It’s a great project to be involved with."
Johan Museeuw in his pomp at the Spring Classics, features in March
Prendas Ciclismo is an online cycling clothing retailer based in Poole, Dorset and they're in the 16th year of trading. Apart from some big and exotic ranges like Santini, Etxeondo and Campagnolo they're well known for their own line in retro homage and pretty much the go-to site for such kit as that of the French 80's 'Z' and la Vie Claire teams as well as the legendary Italian Mapei strip worn by Johan Museeuw in the calendar's page for March 2012.
Prendas founder Mick Tarrant says, "This year’s edition was conceived around the time of Mark Cavendish’s victory at the UCI Road World Championships, hence the rainbow bands added to the theme.
"Twelve former world champions are honoured in black/white and full colour including Eddy Merckx, Joop Zoetemelk, Tom Simpson, Felice Gimondi, Johan Museeuw, Paolo Bettini, Mario Cipollini, Graeme Obree, Tom Boonen, Giuseppe Saronni, Jan Raas and Mark Cavendish.
"Every year I wonder why we undertake such a project and every year I know why when I see this fabulous end result," concludes Tarrant.
