The Pain in the Main Hurts Mostly on the Plain

Pain on the Plain Sportive, Wiltshire 5th June

If you fancy a stab at a sportive this coming weekend, then why not head down to Tidworth, Wiltshire for this year's Pain on the Plain on Sunday 5th June.

The event consists of three different route options, all using some of the best roads around Salisbury Plain, at 50, 100 or 160km distances. In addition to scenic public roads, the event also gives riders a unique opportunity to ride some private military roads not normally open for public use. For all three routes there are also optional gravel road sections more frequently used by tanks! Each route will be signposted and be served by feed stations and a broom wagon.

On the morning of the sportive there will also be a short family ride, suitable to all ages and abilities, as well as child orientated events throughout the day.

A series of criterium races will take place on a circuit around Tedworth House in Tidworth on the Saturday evening (4th June). These are the South Region Circuit Championships open to National B, Regional Juniors and Women Only Classifications. Entry forms area available for download from British Cycling

All profits from the Pain on the Plain event will go to the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA Forces Help www.ssafa.org.uk

Entry is £27 in advance (£32 on the day) or £17 (£22 on the day) for Serving Armed Forces.

Lara has been riding bikes for longer than she'd care to admit, and writing about them nearly as long. Since 2009 she has been working as part of the road.cc review team whilst championing women's cycling on the side, most notably via two years as editor of the, sadly now defunct, UK's first and only women's cycling mag, erm, Women's Cycling.

Believing fervently that cycling will save the world, she wishes that more people would just ride a bike and be pleasant to each other.

She will ride anything with two wheels, occasionally likes to go fast, definitely likes to go far and is always up for a bit of exploring somewhere new and exciting.
