Fort William Downhill World Cup to be live streamed on BBC tomorrow

Watch footage of the course

The second round of the 2019 UCI Downhill World Cup is taking place in Fort William this weekend. Both the men’s and women’s elite races will be streamed on the BBC website on Sunday.

The 2.8km long course at Aonach Mor, the 9th highest mountain in the UK, provides tough terrain.

Here’s some footage.

Five-time and defending world champion Rachel Atherton finished third at last year's event, but dislocated her shoulder in a fall the year before.

“I’ve done it before and I know what to do,” she said. “I need to get down the mountain before the adrenaline wears off and it starts hurting and I start crying.

“There was a spectator near me and I turned to him: ‘Come on, mate, you need to pull my shoulder back into place’. The problem was he was being too gentle because he didn’t want to hurt me.”

She added: “Over the years I used to hate it. It's a big track; you have to be strong and fit, but I learned to love it and trained into it – you develop yourself as a rider to love Fort William.”

The broadcast of the women’s race starts at 12.35pm and the men’s at 2pm.

You can also find coverage on the UCI’s Twitter and Facebook pages.

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.

Jeez, I didn't realise Rachel Atherton asked a spectator to pull her dislocated shoulder back into place. That'll be quite a pub story for whoever it was for years to come.

Good coverage by the BBC.  Worth a watch.

Crazy people on bikes in the wet.

I REALLY enjoyed that.

Singletrack gave us a course preview of Gee Atherton going down.

It's going to be wet.
