Front and rear views of today’s near miss, which occurred on March 17 at approximately 11.30am between Retford and Worksop on the A620.
James writes: “The ride was a Bassetlaw Tri Club ride and had been an uneventful 50-mile ride until this point.
“The Nissan felt very close, didn’t slow down at all and I think the video front/rear prove she was stupidly close.”
James said the cameras were bought because three weeks earlier a car had done the same thing, but quicker.
“Again the arms went up from us, but the car then stopped in the middle of the road. A bloke then got out his car, head butted me, then my mate, then gouged his eyes.
“He phoned his son, and we heard him say, “three cyclists have just attacked me, come and help me,” so his son drove from seven miles away. We didn’t lay a finger on him and we had several witnesses who saw the whole thing.
“I had to pin him on the floor and ask for witnesses to call the police and they attended. Basically they asked if we wanted to press charges but we should just really shake hands and let it go, which we reluctantly did.”
Over the years road.cc has reported on literally hundreds of close passes and near misses involving badly driven vehicles from every corner of the country – so many, in fact, that we’ve decided to turn the phenomenon into a regular feature on the site. One day hopefully we will run out of close passes and near misses to report on, but until that happy day arrives, Near Miss of the Day will keep rolling on.
If you’ve caught on camera a close encounter of the uncomfortable kind with another road user that you’d like to share with the wider cycling community please send it to us at info [at] road.cc or send us a message via the road.cc Facebook page.
If the video is on YouTube, please send us a link, if not we can add any footage you supply to our YouTube channel as an unlisted video (so it won't show up on searches).
Please also let us know whether you contacted the police and if so what their reaction was, as well as the reaction of the vehicle operator if it was a bus, lorry or van with company markings etc.

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.
That's awful. Sounds like the police were trying to de-escalate the situation (which is good) but also trying to avoid extra paperwork (which is bad). Is it possible to pursue the issue now and claim that you were under duress by the police to not pursue it at the time?
I would go with “I was in shock having just been assaulted”, but please do contact the police. If it’s not done these psychos will think that behaviour is ok and keep doing that it. Next time it won’t be a close pass and a fight, it will be emergency stop and reverse or worse.

De escalate, er the criminal offence had already occured!
It was more like police simply didn't want to do their jobs and pervert the course of justice by twisting the arms of the cyclists not to take it further, an utter disgrace and a complaint/press for charges should be made.
This type of thing should NEVER be passed off a quick shake of hands, the offender is probably pissing themselves laughing that they got off so easily!

Sorry, you were physically assaulted, with witnesses and the police attended only to suggest you shake hands and let it go?
I find that incredible. Would they say the same to someone walking in the high street doing their shopping who got assaulted? I would personally make a complaint, that is outrageous.
I had a truck driver deliberately try 3 times to put me under the wheels of his trailer, then get out and assault me, punching me twice. I had 5 independent witnesses.
He was sentenced to a 12 week prison sentence suspended for twelve months, fined £1000 (which is to come to me), lost his licence for 2 years and the traffic police have since taken it up with the Transport Commissioner recommending he never gets his LGV licence back. That is how this should be dealt with.
