Dashcam footage from a bus in Sydney, Australia has captured the terrifying moment a motorist ran a red light and hit a cyclist, almost struck a pedestrian, then crashed into another vehicle.
The video, posted on news.com.au, also shows the shocked reaction to the incident from the bus driver and passengers.Fortunately, neither the cyclist nor the pedestrian was serioulsy injured.
The driver overtook the bus on the left then veered into the lane where the cyclist was waiting at a traffic signal, knocking him off his bike.
A pedestrian jumped out of the way as the motorist continued towards the junction, where they hit a car going through on the green light.
Video of the incident, which happened in the Surrey Hills area of the New South Wales City, has only now been made public.
State Transit’s Steffen Eaurby told 7 News Sydney: “We capture a lot of situations in traffic where things go wrong or are close to going wrong.
“A lot of cyclists use this where they capture the situations exactly when it happens.”
The driver of the car was reported to have tested positive for methamphetamine.

Glad to hear they weren’t
Glad to hear they weren’t seriously injured.
It’s “Surry Hills” (drop the
It’s “Surry Hills” (drop the “e”) and New South Wales is the state, not city.

When you’re being a pedant, it’s best to make sure you got your facts right on all fronts.
Still, one out of two isn’t bad…

Back in the 90s, quite a few people were dropping the E’ s in the Surrey hills on all night raves. 😎
It was 808 State, not 808 city.

I think you’ll find New South Wales is acting as an adjective as Sydney has already had a mention, the definite article was another big, in your face clue too. So not incorrect.
The standards of pedantry really are slack these days.
Horrific (and indeed shocking
Horrific (and indeed shocking) footage. Glad everyone walked away from that, hate to think what may have happened had the child seat was occupied.
Nice to see the WMP’s close pass operation (mention of ‘a similar scheme in the UK’) being held up as a model to follow in Australia.
Can we take a moment.
Can we take a moment.
does it really matter if it is surrey or surry?
think about the cyclist and kid that just go hit by a nutter in a tin can off their nut!?
thats a parent and child that will no doubt never be back on the bike. its my biggest worry when out with my boy who loves getting out on the bike with me, I hope that this parent manages somehow to work through this and that the law makers in australia will start cracking down on the hatred shown by drivers for cyclists.

I’m not sure that this is the best example of cyclist hatred by drivers – I’d consider this more of an example of how the war-on-drugs isn’t working (c.f. Portugal).
