Jack has never won a bike race, but does have a master’s degree in print journalism, and two Guinness World Records for pogo sticking (it’s a long story).

@chrisonabike I think the important message here is that your head will fly 20% further if you are wearing a collapsible helmet. Has anyone researched how far your head will fly if you're not wearing a helmet at all? Seems worthy of a research grant.

Any cyclist caught cycling backwards (on a non-fixed wheel bike) should be jailed for at least 2 years and have their bike confiscated. Such a despicable manoeuvre is dangerously confusing to motorists and pedestrians.

@robike "why not cycles" UCI has entered the chat (in 1914, 1934 etc) 1914 - after riders began experimenting with fairings and a notable fatal crash, UCI banned such things 1934 - they brought in rules to effectively ban recumbents, ostensibly "safety" but possibly because complaints from better riders beaten by a recumbent rider, and vested bike industry interests Of course there is constant creativity with the likes of shaped helmets etc. If you care less about the history and just want to be as fast as humanly-powered possible, there's eg. the British Human Powered Club!

They should get a fairing, then posture will be less significant. Most other road sports have fairings - why not cycles?

@Mr Blackbird he's a freedom fighter for oppressed minorities (white farmers in South Africa, convicted right-wing thug types who're back before the judge on harrasment charges, Trump administration loyalists...)! Also in favour of freedoms around gun ownership, abuse and insult ("hurty words"), rich folks not paying taxes - certainly likely to be a friend to UK vulnerable road users!

I’ve been commuting by bike
I’ve been commuting by bike everyday for several years. When I drive my car, I feel like I’m about to fall asleep. I more or less hate driving now.

If one scrolls down a bit from that nice NL street scene you’ll find a deliberate close pass on someone using a speed pedelec and the same user gets pulled out on by a van a few days earlier. if people think that Dutch drivers are any more considerate than ours they are deluded.
