Australian pro cyclist Annette Edmondson has somehow escaped unscathed following an encounter with a truck being driven on the wrong side of the road on a blind bend. Her bike wasn’t so lucky.
Edmondson, world champion in the Omnium and team pursuit in 2015, tweeted a picture of her mangled Colnago on Thursday.
Turns out trucks on the wrong side of the road and bikes don’t mix. Unbelievably I’m fine! #bikeawareness #sharetheroad pic.twitter.com/a5SyRixyQc

Former pro Lucy Martin tweeted more details.
Not what you expect to happen when you head out on an easy spin. Skid marks show how far over the truck driver was Lucky #sharetheroad pic.twitter.com/L59BbVVe18

This wasn’t the first time Edmondson has suffered a serious collision either. In February 2016, she was hospitalised after being hit by a car while on a training ride in Adelaide.
The incident again took place on a blind bend, on that occasion just 10 minutes into her ride.

Poor bicycle, very good news
Poor bicycle, very good news she was OK.
Can we have a follow up on
Can we have a follow up on whether the driver is being prosecuted?

Though their judges dont seem to be as lenient as ours, Australian police are just as bad as UK plod in their motorcentric bias, so dont expect much joy.
After the close pass laws and massive increases in cyclng fines were introduced in NSW, there were over 1,500 prosecutions … to people on bikes (1,100 for no helmet @$319 a pop) but a massive FOUR for close pass infringements which attract the same financial penalty as not wearing a helmet!
It’s enough to make you give
It’s enough to make you give up road cycling and take up something safer, like base jumping or crocodile wrestling.
