Cycling UK gets new Cow Parade sculpture to replace one that was stolen

Cycling Moo Kay II replaces predecessor nicked from Box Hill last month

A fibreglass cow that was destined to raise money for the charity Cycling UK before it was stolen last month has been replaced thanks to the organisers of the Surrey Hills Cow Parade.

The sculpture, named Cycling Moo Kay and featuring a picture by artist Charles Rowbotham showing cyclists on Box Hill, was taken from the top of that climb on the night of Thursday 18 August.

Its replacement, Cycling Moo Kay II, will similarly feature Rowbotham’s artwork, reports Get Surrey.

Cycling UK chief executive Paul Tuohy commented: “We are delighted and extremely grateful about this wonderful gesture to create Cycling Moo Kay II, the daughter – or should that be calf – of our stolen cow.

“The theft was heartless but now we will have a cow to auction after all, which will provide welcome funds to help us in our work to make cycling a normal everyday activity which can be enjoyed by everyone.”

Since being launched in Zurich, Switzerland in 1998, Cow Parade has visited dozens of cities worldwide, raising millions of pounds for charity and inspiring similar initiatives such as one featuring Shaun The Sheep which appeared in Bristol and London in last year.

Was it Sustrans or British Cycling wot did it?  We should be told.

Did you hear about the cyclist who wore paper instead of lycra?  He was hung for rustling.

do you mean the cownnection?

they love bicycles, cows do, but they've no sense of balance. If you ever go riding in France be sure to visit the Parc Naturel Regional de Millevaches en Limousin. There are loads of them there - probably more than a thousand, in fact - and they all look longingly at you as you cycle by. Be sure to wave and shout 'ca vache?´ as you pass.
