Videos: Rayane Bouhanni in scuffle with rival after brother Nacer crashes in sprint

Cofidis rider follows sibling in putting the punch into puncheur

Cofidis rider Rayane Bouhanni was involved in a scuffle after the finish of yesterday’s Stage 2 of the Tour du Poitou Charnetes after a late crash involving his team mate and older brother, Nacer – who was himself disqualified from Sunday’s Cyclassics race in Hamburg for cutting up Orica-BikeExchange’s Caleb Ewen in the sprint.

The older Bouhanni had won Tuesday’s opening stage at Poitou-Charentes to take the leaders’ jersey, but was one of the riders who came down in the big crash in the finale yesterday, with his brother and another Cofidis team member, Christophe Laporte, accosting Delko Marseille rider Asbjorn Kragh Anderson afterwards, whom they held responsible for the incident.

Laporte and Anderson were each fined 200 Swiss Francs and given a time penalty of one minute by commissaires, although Bouhanni escapd censure.

A former winner of the points jersey at the Giro d’Italia, Nacer Bouhanni missed this year’s Tour de France after breaking a bone in his hand in a late-night altercation with fellow hotel guests the night before the French road championships.

His relegation in Germany on Sunday is the second time commissaires have taken a win from him this season, the other being at Paris-Nice in March where he was adjudged to have moved across the line of Orica-GreenEdge’s Michael Matthews who almost crashed into the barriers but was later awarded the win.

The 26-year-old, who has trained as a boxer, is back to winning ways today, however, winning the third stage at Poitou Charentes.

They need some lessons from ice hockey players.  You need to grab the other guy before you try to punch!
