Inquest opens into Chris Boardman's mother's death

Funeral to be held on August 2

An inquest has heard that Olive Carol Boardman was struck by a Mitsubishi L200 pick-up while cycling on the Mold Road roundabout in Connah’s Quay at 1.54pm on Saturday, July 16. Chris Boardman’s mother, known as Carol, died at the Countess of Chester Hospital the following morning at the age of 75.

The Daily Post reports that the inquest opened at Ruthin County Hall yesterday. North East Wales and central coroner, John Gittins, said a Home Office post mortem has given a provisional cause of death as multiple injuries.

Gittins added that as there is a criminal investigation ongoing into the incident, the date for the full inquest will stand adjourned.

In a post to social media, Chris Boardman said that his mother’s funeral would be held at The South Chapel, Landican Crematorium on the Wirral.

“All are welcome to join us in saying goodbye to our mum.

“We ask that you don’t send flowers. If people feel the need to make a donation, her chosen charity is Hoylake RNLI.

“After the service, we will have a small gathering but due to the numbers, we hope people will understand the need to restrict this to family and close friends.”
