Video: Contador's stage 2 Tour de France crash

Onboard video shows Tinkoff rider's second crash of this year's Tour. Contador must now recover before the mountain stages...

Bike-mounted cameras caught the moment Alberto Contador crashed during Stage 2 of the Tour de France yesterday.

The collision, which happened on wet roads yesterday, was the second of this year’s race, the combination of which have left the Spaniard "physically hampered".

The Tinkoff rider sustained cuts and bruising to his right side after a heavy fall on Saturday's opening stage, before falling again after 60km yesterday, sustaining further injuries to his left side.

In on-bike footage, Contador can be seen trying to squeeze along the left hand side of the peloton, which has slowed down, before hitting a kerb and falling.

Following the crash Contador was unable to keep pace with an uphill sprint to yesterday’s finish in Cherbourg, and lost 48 seconds to Chris Froome and Nairo Quintana.

Contador said: "I lost more time than I had hoped to lose. I suffered another crash; I hit the handlebars and I was hurt on the other side from yesterday.

"I must stay calm, not lose morale. I'm still standing, but I have been really affected. The Tour has really started on the wrong footing. I'm not happy at all. It's cycling.

"I'm physically hampered. I cannot pedal as I would like as the result of crashes. The important thing is to keep my morale, not fall apart, which is sometimes complicated. Both legs are very affected."
