Yoga for Cyclists, part 14: What is core strength?

We bang on about the core in these parts, but what is it and why do you need one?

When we talk about the core, we're not just talking about what you're thinking about - the six pack. Or was that just me? Anyway...

It's also about the obliques, which run down the side of the stomach, the muscles that connect the thigh to the pelvis to the back, and also the pelvic floor muscles (the ones you use to stop peeing).

All of the movements we make when cycling (or doing anything else) rely on the core, and maintaining it can actually reduce your chances of getting injured. In this video, road.cc's resident yoga expert Karen Burt explains more.
