Appeal as Essex cyclist pushed from bike by van passenger

Incident tool place in Brentwood last Wednesday

Police in Essex have launched an appeal for witnesses after a cyclist was pushed from his bike by a van passenger last Wednesday.

The incident took place on Goatswood Lane, Brentwood, close to the junction with Horseman Side, at about 2pm on 20 January.

In a post to Facebook, Essex Police said: “The male passenger of a van which was driving alongside the cyclist grabbed his helmet via an open window, causing him to lose control of the bicycle and fall off.

“The cyclist, who is aged in his 60s, sustained grazes to his legs and face and was left shaken up by the incident.

“We are treating the incident as an assault and are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time to get in contact. A passer-by stopped to help the victim but did not leave any contact details.”

Anyone who has information relating to the incident is asked to call police on 101 or the charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Essex! UKIP heartland that it is. The surprise is that stuff like this doesn't happen about 5 times a day. I sure the passenger was unhappy that he was late for his spray tan or something.

I wonder what colour the van was ?

Well done - 3 crass stereotypes in one short post.

Passenger certainly scum, and the driver not much better; sadly could occur anywhere these days. Hope the assister comes forward as a witness.

What has UKIP got to do with it. Yet again another lefty moron with a keyboard but no brains and little idea on how to use it.

I stopped too, mostly the same reason. I did that in jest btw, intended to diffuse slightly an unhelpful slanging match, due to your reply to some numpty simply blaming UKIP - strangely enough using a similarly over-generalised piece of knee-jerk fucking nonsense. Thank you for the ad hominem and for re-inforcing my own reasons for spending hardly any time here as well.

Put 2+2 together and you can almost see a Team Sky logo adorning Assos gear in 2017.

Sickening, what actually goes through these peoples minds?????

I can see things getting a bit like Russia with cameras in the majority of cars (id like if footage auto uploaded to insurer to review) and cyclists are going to each have a camera because of numpties like this.

Run cameras on both ends of the bike (or I will once my Fly12 actually ships) AND in the car.

Fact is these days you can't do too much to protect yourself.  I'm sure one or two people have backed off when they've realised the light on the back of my bike is in fact a camera as well.
