A Bristol taxi driver who was caught on film cutting up a cyclist and braking in front of him has had his licence revoked for driving in an intimidating and dangerous manner.
The Bristol Post reports that the incident occurred on Victoria Road and Anchor Road at about 8am on Saturday, March 9.
The footage, posted on Twitter by Bristol Cycling Campaign, begins with the cyclist gesturing at another motorist who overtakes in a 20mph zone coming up to a red light.
The driver of the silver Seat taxi follows and then cuts in front of the cyclist before braking at the lights.
Two minutes later, after the lights have changed, the taxi driver passes the cyclist on the inside before swerving into the cyclist’s lane and again braking in front of him. He stops blocking a pedestrian crossing.

“What you doing? It’s a 20mph limit,” the cyclist says.
The driver leans out of his car window and shouts a number of things, seemingly enraged by the earlier incident.
At one point, he ssays: “Shut up. You’re dangerous mate, you’re dangerous. Fuck you. He’s got kids in the car. What the fuck is wrong with you?”
The cyclist says: “He shouldn’t be doing more than 20mph. That was really dangerous what you did there, you’re supposed to be a professional driver.”
Bristol council agreed. In a statement, they said: “Following a report from the Neighbourhood Enforcement Team a private hire taxi driver has had his licence revoked for driving his taxi in an intimidating and dangerous manner, putting the safety of a cyclist and other members of the public at risk.
“The cyclist had captured the incident, which was considered as very serious and is also being investigated by the police, on his helmet camera.”

Good, just good.

And Robert Winston, this idiot has insurance and had multiple licences, didn’t stop him being a wrongun.
He’ll just continue working,
He’ll just continue working, anyway. What are the chances of being caught?

The thing I take out of this is that “journalists” at road.cc don’t read the comments.
Either that or they couldn’t make out what was wrong with their headline: “Sounds OK to us”.

I think road.cc as a whole has been suffering for a while. Writing hasn’t been all that great and they’ve added tonnes more ads per page which is highly annoying. This website needs a bit of an overhaul tbh, I mean look at how extremely basic and backwards the forum are
“…taxi driver who cut up
“…taxi driver who cut up cyclist and broke in front of him…”
Come on, you’re supposed to be, or you’re pretending to be professional journalists. The English language is one of the tools of your trade and you misuse it like this.
Break, past tense = broke
Brake, past tense = braked

What is up with these drivers? No need to get involved.
Or is it see a cyclist froth at the mouth then shout ‘fucking cyclist cunt’ which I had for not cycling fast enough up a hill on a narrow road.

Excellent quick work by the council!
Hopefully word will get around the taxi community.
I had a run in with a cabbie
I had a run in with a cabbie a few years back when he jumped a red light very late and at the licencing m,eeting deciding his fate the driver said he doesn’t use that road to get into the centre of Bristol as he usually uses the M32 which didn’t make sense to me as you can’t pick up passengers aon M32 whereas you can when travelling through Old Market. The driver got a 3 month hackney licence suspension which he appealed and lost so the suspension ran over the Christmas/New Year period so he lost more financially cause of the appeal.

Sadly all that will happen is that he’ll get a license from another council and operate quite legally in Briston as an Uber driver. Uber allows drivers to get round any form of punishment other than a loss of a drivers license.
Not sure when it became
Not sure when it became normal for cyclists to become road traffic law vigilantes. The majority of drivers speed, I don’t feel the need to race after every one of them and then berate them. I’m not excusing the actions of the taxi driver.

It’s normal because cyclists are endangered disproportionately by bad drivers. It is natural to strongly oppose dangerous and illegal behaviour.

This one didn’t feel the need to race after the driver them either.

Yeah ^this.
Anyone using the word vigilante to describe a cyclist with a camera needs to consult a dictionary.
Vigilante could be used to describe a driver who dislikes cyclists and puts them in danger to mete-out what they falsely believe is justice.

Still better than Batman vs Superman.

Yup.
Just imagine how dull the Batman movies would be if they used that definition – 2 hours of a guy in a silly suit running around with a helmet cam filming crimes, then uploading the footage to Commissioner Gordon, who proceeds to ignore it.

Were you watching the same video? All the cyclist did was give a hand gesture after a dangerous overtake. No racing after the driver to berate them.
