From Greg Van Avermaet’s Olympic gold to Adam Yates’ unwitting acrobatics during the Tour de France, many of the most memorable moments from the 2016 pro cycling season feature in a rather marvellous animated review of the year.
The video was put together by Pro Cycling Trumps, the card game built around members of the peloton.
Happy new year! Here’s a look back at 2016. Looking forward to more cycling fun in 2017 pic.twitter.com/28v7FoZkUA

The video does raise at least one major question, however. As one member of road.cc staff put it: “Spartacus was a slave. Why’s he wearing a legionary’s helmet?”
There are a number of different packs of Pro Cycling Trumps available. As well as those based on 2016 riders, you can also get a Legends pack and another that focuses on climbs.
