Since the release of its M2 and M2S motors, Avinox has been making waves in the e-MTB market as brands and customers have been allured by the power it offers. One of those brands is Canyon, as it has now officially launched its Avinox-powered Spectral:ON, as the bike steps away from Shimano motors. Meet the Spectral:ON CF 9.

Both Canyon and Avinox rustled feathers at this year’s Eurobike, where the brand showed off its Avinox MG-equipped prototype, but perhaps less spoken about was its M2S-powered trail bike that appeared at its stand. Then, it was unnamed, but now it’s here: the latest iteration of the Spectral:ON.

Promising to ‘tick all boxes’, the new Spectral:ON claims to bring the power of regular e-mountain bikes but in a package that weighs similarly to those lower-powered, SL e-mountain bikes. Canyon states that the Spectral:ON LTD, which isn’t available yet, weighs at least 20.8kg, while delivering the 150Nm of torque that the Avinox M2S drive system has become renowned for. But interestingly, this bike is equipped with what we assume is the newest 700Wh battery, so it can also knock out 1,500W of peak power, whereas bikes without it were limited to 1,300W.

At the moment, the new Spectral:ON is developed around a carbon fibre chassis, and it comes with a mixed wheel size as standard, although thanks to a flip chip, fans of bigger wheels can equip the bike with a pair of 29-inch hoops. That carbon frame benefits from a touch of tuning, too. Apparently, the front triangle is stiffer to help with steering precision, says Canyon, while the rear uses more compliant seat and chainstays to absorb trail chatter.

As for suspension travel, expect 160mm up front with 155mm at the rear, and with that small change has come love to its kinematic. That means that there’s more anti-squat and anti-rise built in, common on any new bike we’ve seen this year, in order for it to pedal more efficiently, offer better midstroke support, and more traction under braking.

If you’re well acquainted with Canyon’s modern Spectral platform, the geometry is pretty similar. There’s a 64-degree head tube angle and a 78.5-degree effective seat tube angle. A large frame boasts a 495mm reach, and there are size-specific chainstays, with a small and medium getting a 442mm measurement while the large and XL get 447mm stays.

At the moment, the latest generation Spectral:ON is only available in its CF 9 build, which dons Fox Factory suspension with a 36 fork and Float X shock, SRAM Maven brakes, and a SRAM XO T-Type drivetrain, sorted with a power meter. There’s also a DT SWISS HXC1700 wheelset. However, we’re told that we can expect more models coming in the next few months, with bikes being shipped from January 19th.

If you’re keen for an Avinox-flavoured Spectral:ON, this bike will set you back £6,699.
