Revel Bikes has been a little quiet over the past few years, but after the brand’s founder, Adam Miller, re-acquired Revel after a brief trip into bankruptcy, it’s back with a fresh overhaul to its Ranger mountain bike. It’s more than just a tasty new paint job, too. Here are all of the details.

The Ranger is Revel’s short travel platform that started life with 115mm of travel, priming itself for aggressive cross-country, or dare I say it, downcountry jaunts. But like it or not, thanks to a boost in rear wheel travel up to 120mm, the Ranger is now poised to fill those downcountry boots.

It’s not just more travel that the new bike brings as Revel has revisited the CBF suspension platform to grace the Ranger with ‘playfulness that you normally wouldn’t expect’. Now, that 120mm of travel (with 130mm up front) is set to be more progressive than previous versions. It looks like the brand has gone for the typical sensitive off the top, supportive in the middle, and bottomless at the end approach, as it states that the new system provides an “air pillow on top, supportive platform in the middle, bottomless at the end” feel. It also benefits from increased anti-squat to balance easy pedalling with that updated kinematic.

As Revel has gone hard on breathing new life into the Ranger, the third iteration welcomes an updated geometry. Now, there’s a steeper seat tube for more efficient pedalling, as well as a longer reach for a more central riding position. The head angle is slacker, and the bottom bracket is lower. Additionally, the bike employs proportional chain stays that grow as the frame size gets larger.

In numbers, that means that the Ranger gets a 65.7-degree head tube angle and a 77-degree effective seat tube angle while a large frame rocks a 485mm reach and a 437mm chainstay. Yep, it’s a 29er, too, which makes perfect sense for a bike of this type.

There’s also been a lot of attention paid to the frame itself. In fact, much of it has been redesigned to improve its balance of stiffness and weight. That comes from a new lower link that sits inside the frame, and each of the links has been redesigned in a bid to achieve ‘a more efficient structure’ and better stiffness. There are then larger tube cross sections to bring more stiffness, again.

Revel will be bringing three models of the Ranger V3 to the market, with the SRAM Eagle 90 build costing £5,999, the SRAM XO Eagle Transmission setup costing £7,999, and the SRAM XX Eagle Transmission bike topping the range at £9,599.
