It might weigh just 2.75kg but the new Bosch Performance Line CX Race Limited Edition motor produces 85Nm of torque and can quadruple your power. Well, that’s according to the brand.

The new drive unit is Bosch’s lightest to date and has been designed primarily with racing in mind. As a result, we’re likely to see them fitted to the best electric mountain bikes.

The drive unit offers up to 400% of assistance, which is delivered instantly from the first pedal input to the legally required speed limit.

The Performance Line CX is the lightest drive unit in the Bosch portfolio, weighing 250g less than the standard unit (currently utilised by Cannondale’s new Trail Neo 1). By reducing the overall weight, riders will have more control on technical downhills and over jumps, not to mention neutral handling when not pedalling.

With 85Nm of torque, the Performance Line CX Race Limited Edition offers maximum power for accelerations in all situations – the motor also offers assistance at cadences over 120rpm, a number where assistance traditionally begins tapering off.

The new drive unit is packaged in a sleek, magnesium housing with a graphite grey metal finish allowing it to integrate well with slim-frame designs.

In terms of set-up, the System Controller seamlessly integrates into the top tube, and the Bluetooth-connected Mini Remote can be flexibly mounted on the handlebars. The button placement helps the rider to keep their hands on the bars at all times, allowing easy activation of the smart Push Assist or integrated Hill Hold function.
