With the rain coming down (both inside and outside the office) our thoughts turned to keeping our feet dry on the trails. We’ve got winter boots in from Lake and as a complete antidote to those we are also testing some fancy race shoes from Specialized. There is also a new, under a grand hardtail from Lapierre to get out and get muddy on, dig in!

Specialized S-Works Recon shoes

Last week Specialized launched a new cross-country race shoe with bold words claiming the S-Works Recon shoe is ‘the fastest shoe on dirt’. We’ve taken a first look at this racey off-road mountain bike and gravel shoe before handing it over to Dave, our resident ‘fastest’ gravel rider….

Lake MXZ 200 boots

The MXZ 200 boots from Lake are heavy duty, leather boots that to look at scream hiking more than biking. They are for use with either SPD’s or flat pedal and promise to be waterproof with a wider last than other winter boots from the brand.

Lake MXZ303

If you are after something that looks vaguely more like a cycling shoe then these MXZ303’s from Lake might be just the ticket. With enough room for proper winter socks, these also have a Thinsulate lining in toe box and a Vibram sole for good off bike grip.

Lapierre Edge AM 827+

Another to add to the list of bikes under £1,000 (well, almost) is the Lapierre Edge AM 827+. Despite the colour, this is not a ‘lady bike’, its a 120mm hardtail with 2.8″ tyres and a 1x drivetrain. We will be out testing this as soon as we have fixed that unruly cable….

FLR Defender winter boots

These shoes from FLR are designed for moisture regulation…. We think that’s a canny way of avoiding the topic of whether or not they are waterproof! Either way, we’ll test them and see!
