Another Friday, another 5 cool things and this week we’ve seen a rather eclectic range of kit come through the office. Here, we’ve got an interesting looking gravel bike from Surly, an e-bike rated bike carrier from Italian brand, Peruzzo, Goodyear’s brand new Newton tyres, some socks and some shorts.

Number one in this week’s 5 cool things is the TRAIL Socks EVO from ASSOS. These are designed to be abrasion resistant while offering ankle protection in a comfortable, ride-all-day package. They’ve been made with all-mountain riders in mind who prefer a less compressive sock. They’re moisture-wicking too and ASSOS has kept breathability as high a priority as their road-going socks.

Next up, Peruzzo’s Zephyr towball bike carrier has been designed to meet the needs of e-bikers as it’s rated to carry up to 60kg. This bike carrier gets extra space inbetween the wheel tracks to make room for chunkier ebikes and there’s a ramp included in the box to help roll those hefty, motor clad bikes up and onto the rack. This one can also be expanded to carry four bikes with the addition of an aftermarket part. The Zephyr can be locked onto the towbar and all of its security arms are lockable too.

Surly Ghost Grappler

The Ghost Grappler is Surly’s singletrack eating, bikepacking, phantom fighting gravel bike that’s been engineered primarily around a stable and comfortable drop-bar hand position. It gets fat tyres, all of the mounts for packs, and is primed to accompany you and your kit through a range of riding.

This bike is equipped with 650b wheels and mighty chunky 2.6″ tyres. It gets a MicroSHIFT Advent X drivetrain and a TransX dropper post. We’re pretty excited to see what our tester thinks of this one.

Goodyear Newton MTF and MTR tyres

£53.90 – £64.90

It’s been a rather considerable few weeks for tyre releases with Continental launching its new range of mountain bike tyres and now automotive tyre giant, Goodyear has revamped its Newton line of tyres. The time around, the Newton tyres are made up of a front specific, MTF and rear specific MTR tyres, both having been designed with inspiration from those used on motocross bikes. The front is designed for quick cornering and stability at speed while the rear emphasises lateral grip, drive and speed. Goodyear has also introduced new rubber compounds and casings.

These will be put on the Team ORCC enduro race bike, so for some early impressions and to see how the team is doing, click here.

Hutchinson Tundra tyres

£39.95 – £49.95

Back in March, Hutchinson introduced the Tundra into the line to bolster the range and to offer a tyre that’s ideal for swampy conditions. The brand has used its existing tyres to create the Tundra, using the very same shoulder knobs as what’s found on the Skeleton cross country tyre. While primarily designed for wet conditions, Hutchinson says that this tyre will also be grippy while traversing technical sections that are full of roots and dodgy angles.
