Recently arrived in the road.cc vault is the brand new J.Guillem Atalaya, a gravel bike from the Mallorcan-based titanium focused bike brand that launched a couple of years ago. Hit play on the video above to see the bike in all its glory.
A little bit of info about the new bike in case you're at work and you can't watch the video...
The frame is made from seamless 3Al/2.5V with a hand-brushed finish and there are some interesting details that help this frame stand out from the crowd. A key part and integral to providing the necessary tyre clearance is the cast titanium bottom bracket and chainstay assembly.
It provides maximum tyre clearance by curving the stays out as wide as possible, whilst also maintaining the necessary frame stiffness, and removing the need for a chainstay bridge. Talking of tyre clearance, the Atalaya will take 700x40mm and or the 650bx2.1in wheels, providing plenty of tyre choices depending on what you want from your gravel bike, your riding style and terrain you're trying to ride over.
All cables and hoses are routed internally, entering the head tube and downtube and through the one-piece cast bottom bracket and chainstays to exit ports near the rear derailleur and rear brake. Drilled holes in the thin titanium walls have been completely avoided.
The dropouts have also been cast in titanium and are thru-axle compatible with neat removable mudguard eyelets and flat mount disc brake mounts. Likewise, the tapered head tube is also cast from titanium to enable as much frame stiffness as possible.
The frameset costs €2,000 and a complete bike costs from €4,000, or €5,204 in the build we have here, with Shimano Ultegra, Scope carbon wheels and WTB Riddler 37mm tyres. Full review coming soon...
