Bradley Wiggins teaches comedian Jack Whitehall track cycling (+ video)

Comedian Jack Whitehall has been taking tips from four-time Olympic gold medallist Sir Bradley Wiggins and former world champion Becky James about how to ride round a velodrome.

His introduction to riding the boards forms part of a multimedia campaign aimed at introducing casual fans to the nuances of sports featuring at Rio this summer with which they are unfamiliar.

Other spots in the Samsung School of Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games campaign will see Whitehall introduced to rowing, boxing, swimming and equestrian events.

He has received expert advice from athletes including Paralympic swimming champion Ellie Simmonds and gold medal-winning rowers Sir Steve Redgrave and Helen Glover.

It follows a successful campaign backed by the Korean consumer electronics giant last autumn, Samsung School of Rugby, which tied in with the Rugby World Cup being hosted in England and Wales.

As with that previous campaign, the deadpan comedian asks questions which get some (hopefully staged) uncomfortable silences.

Whitehall said: "The Olympic Games are the ultimate sporting event, bringing together the best athletes in the world to compete for medals.

“However, many fans don’t know the ins and outs of each event. I’d like to think that watching these films will equip the British public with the knowledge they need to enjoy the Games … and hopefully they won’t be too distracted by my athletic physique in a pair of swimming trunks.”
