Norfolk man rides in five countries in 24 hours for new record

Looking to ride through at least seven more this week

A cyclist from Kings Lynn has cycled in five countries in 24 hours to set a new record. The feat is just the first part of Robbie Ferri’s major goal however, as he looks to set a new world record for the most countries cycled in seven days.

KL.FM 96.7 reports that Ferri managed his feat within a couple of days of setting off from the Netherlands. The previous record was four countries, but his main ambition is to ride in at least 12 countries within a week. He is hoping to raise £2,000 for Little Discoverers, a Kings Lynn charity that provides pre-school education for children with movement difficulties and delayed development. (You can donate here.)

Ferri has mapped-out a route which will see the record broken when he reaches Croatia. However, he’s aiming for Hungary and 15 countries in total – although he says he’ll be happy as long as he gets more than 11, which is the current record.

He is riding unsupported, but after training with camping gear he concluded that this was too heavy for the mountains, so he will be staying in hostels during his trip. You can track his progress here.

Ferri started cycling a couple of years ago. Short of cash and wanting to get a present for his sister’s wedding, he invested £20 in a second-hand bike and cycled to Paris to put a lock on the Love Lock Bridge for her and her husband.

Three months later, he undertook a 24-hour ride from London to Brussels to raise money for the Little Heroes charity in support of children with cancer. He has since cycled ten countries in nine days for Cancer Research UK and undertaken a winter trip from London to Alpe D’Huez.

Alex has written for more cricket publications than the rest of the road.cc team combined. Despite the apparent evidence of this picture, he doesn't especially like cake.

Sadly it looks like his knee blew up in Switzerland.

And yes, from the UK, several countries in a ride seems quite impressive. I can ride to France and Belgium and back in a lunchtime from the office without too much drama so the perspective is different. More impressive in context of the 7-day record but 5 countries is at worst (with the right route picking) an equivalent ride to Ride London so what, 4-7 hours depending on the level of the rider.

If you cycle around this picnic table on the Austria-Hungary-Slovakia border you can cover all three in about seven seconds?

Looks like the older Fuji TT/Tri frame, the D6, repainted.

It looks like it would collect a fair bit of cross wind with that frame bag.

Can anyone identify the bike in the photo? Never seen anything like it.

Dunno, but I was just about to post that I thought the frame looks rather cool, until I saw you'd posted already.

Anyway, un chapeau pour l'homme.

rides across, now that's cool. Rides in seems a little weak to me.

getting to croatia will be a big ride though, so ruddy good job for that!

5 countries in 24 hours sounds impressive but being from the region, 30 seconds on Google maps tells me that's about 200km of riding (I see he started RIGHT at the border too). Whilst I applaud the greater ambition of 12 in a week, I know of a good number who've done the 5 in one ride and loads who've done 4 in one ride (3 in one ride can be done in under 5 minutes if you start in the right place).

Without looking are we talking something involving France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany & the Netherlands?

Yep. Looks like he started on the Dutch border, road over into Germany, down Belgium, Luxembourg then France.
