Police in Bromsgrove to help out family cyclists this weekend

Local school hosts bike-themed morning with safety tips, security marking and freebies on offer

Family cyclists in Rubery, near Bromsgrove, are being invited to bring their bikes along to a local school this Saturday to have them checked by police for safety as part of a cycle-themed morning.

Between 10am and 12 noon, Beaconside School, Hazel Road, Rubery will throw its doors open to cyclists in an event organised by Rubery’s local policing unit in partnership with the school. Offficers and PCSOs from West Mercia Police will be available to perform safety checks and give advice on road safety issues.

Also on offer will be a cycle quiz, property marking and a range of road safety-related activities, as well as bike-related freebies.

CSO Dave Anderson told the Bromsgrove Standard:
“The whole idea of the day is to encourage safe cycling and to highlight the importance of keeping bikes in good working order so they are safe to use on the road.

“We will also be able to offer crime prevention advice for bikes and free bike marking, known to deter thieves and make it easier to reunite a bike with its rightful owner if stolen then recovered.

“We hope parents will support the day and bring their children and the family’s bikes along,” he concluded.
