Next weekend sees the launch in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, of the inaugural StreetVelodrome Series – with five rounds of the pop-up track cycling event culminating in a final in the City of London in August.
The event in Stevenage next Sunday 8 June will be followed by rounds in Ealing (22-23 June), Harewod House in Yorkshire (at the Dare 2b Festival of Cycling coinciding with the Grand Départ of the Tour de France from 4-6 July), Stockton-on-Tees (13 July) and Paisley (26 July).
The finals will be held at Broadgate in the City of London on 7 August, and you can find out more information about the event, including how to enter, on its website.
The following video, with commentary from Eurosport’s Carlton Kirby, gives you an idea of what to expect. It was filmed at an exhibition of the concept at the Bike & Triatlon Show in Manchester in March this year.
Last year, StreetVelodrome otganisers Inno Events announced that the 2014 series would be broadcast by Channel 4 in the form of 30-minute highlights packages.
The company’s managing director, Carl Thomspson, said: “We are really proud of the role the StreetVelodrome Series has to play in showcasing dramatic track cycle sport action whilst also providing opportunities to raise the aspirations of young people through accessible sport with our charity partner UK Youth.
“The deal to broadcast the entire series on Channel 4 is a major contribution towards achieving that goal.”
