Sky delay revealing final team as talks continue over Wiggins

Team lawyers reportedly still attempting to hammer out a deal with Garmin-Slipstream

Team Sky has reportedly postponed announcing their final team line-up for their debut 2010 season as negotiations continue with Garmin-Slipstream over the signing of Bradley Wiggins.

The British team, which has already confirmed 19 riders for its roster, had planned to confirm the remaining names today, with many expecting Wiggins to be among them.

However, according to the Guardian, despite meetings this week in New York City between representatives of Team Sky and Garmin-Slipstream’s lawyers and manager Jonathan Vaughters, no deal has been reached yet to sign the British rider.
Sky’s first full team meeting is in Manchester on November 23, by when the full list of riders is expected to be known.

For his part, Wiggins seems eager to move to Sky, where he would hook up with team principal Dave Brailsford, whom he has ridden for under Great Britain’s track programme.

However, whether that move happens appears to rely on the lawyers hammering out a deal and Sky being prepared to pay the compensation sought by Garmin-Slipstream.

The capture of Wiggins, the surprise fourth-place finisher in this year’s Tour de France would give Sky the Grand Tour contender they are perhaps currently lacking, and the situation will continue to be monitored closely by British cycling fans.

Sky don't have long to get this sorted out. As they have not finalised their rider line-up they have not submitted all their documents to the UCI. Which means they officially still don't have a Pro-tour license. The deadline for all paperwork is in a couple of weeks and if they don't submit it on time then they don't get a license.

Interesting that the Guardian article was saying that Murdoch junior is an avid cyclist and keen to get Wiggins. I expect Sky to throw some proper money at it if things get tight on time!
