Original reporting elsewhere was dangerous driving but now corrected to careless. He still got the minimum ban despite previous convictions for dangerous driving and driving while disqualified. The judge did not take account of the guidelines around statutory aggravating factors and other aggravating factors. Disgusting

As someone with extensive experience editing Wikipedia, I apply the editor adage "Assume good faith" to my dealings on Facebook and elsewhere. Instead of assuming that Mr Hill is acting in bad faith, malice, or to provoke a culture war, I prefer to see a concerned individual who wants the best for his constituents, providing a modern and efficient road system that works for everybody. It's also disappointing to see condescension and sneering at using Facebook to invite comments and feedback. Facebook and X provide a "local town square" feel, where individuals can engage in direct public feedback to give their opinions and suggested improvements. I'm sure Mr Hill has taken the comments on board, and will give them the due diligence they deserve.

Hmm... so we *are* saying that e-motorbikes are the future then? Because where people can, I suspect most will just use the throttle, because many currently drive cars? And that the answer is just to apply a (powered) speed limit? Of course there hasn't been *massive* takeup of the current e-things, but that's because of cars. (E.g. fewer nice places to ride them). But I do wonder whether there's an opportunity to get people used to active travel and maybe get to a reasonable mix of bikes plus genuine (less-throttled) EAPCs as we start reducing the motor traffic*? Or does it not matter, because human nature - people will not walk if they can pedal and not pedal if they can drive (as demonstrated by mass motoring)? * If only...

@Alec James Hand throttles should be permitted on all ebikes for this very reason, being able to get up to 15mph faster than even an expert cyclist from standing at the lights is a very significant safety feature that ensures the cyclist can cross the junction ahead of cars and lorries and avoid being left hooked. I no longer ride ebikes but I'd love to have a really small motor and battery on my regular commuter just for that function only (gap in the market for someone?). If the authorities are really concerned about people riding on throttle only (though I don't really see why, as a) it's permitted for rental escooters and b) an ebike can be set so the pedalling effort is pretty much zero (as I can testify having ridden one home with a snapped chain just by turning the pedals to activate the motor)) I'm sure a safeguard could be devised to cut the throttle power after a few seconds.

If they weren't £260 now, how would they be able to sell them for £130 in the sale?
