Police in Kent are appealing for witnesses after two cyclists were killed on a Sunday morning ride in the village of Cobham near Gravesend in Kent.
Kent Police says the collision took place at 7.47am on Sunday 6 September. A white Ford Focus was being driven south westerly along Sole Street in Cobham, towards the village of Meopham, and the driver collided with three cyclists.
Emergency services attended, and confirmed that two of the three cyclists – one a man in his 60s and the other a woman in her 50s – were pronounced dead at the scene. The other cyclist was taken to a local hospital for treatment, and their injuries are described as minor. The families of the cyclists who died have been informed.
Kent Police has now made three arrests, confirming that two men aged 20 and 21 have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. A 19-year-old woman was also detained on suspicion of assisting an offender.
The MP for Dartford, Jim Dickson, posted on his Facebook page after being informed of the incident: “Such awful news about the death of two cyclists, one of which I understand was a very much loved Swanscombe resident.
“My heart goes out to the family and friends of those involved, and the whole community who will be affected by this loss.”
After closing the road while an investigation took place following the collision, Kent Police is appealing for more witnesses, and has asked anyone with information to call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) appeal line on 01622 798538, or email sciu.td@kent.police.uk, quoting the reference RY/KA/072/26.
It has also asked motorists who may have useful dashcam footage or residents with private CCTV that could assist enquiries to upload it to the Kent Police and Essex Police evidence submission portal.
