The punctures I’ve had have been from flint pieces or glass

That’s what I suspected from the ‘punctures over 6 years countable on one hand’ comment. If there are hawthorn hedges, you will get punctures in the autumn/ winter. None of these tyres will stop hawthorn- the only thing I know that works is Marathon Plus, which is a fairly heavy tyre- but it’s what I’m using.

     “didn’t see the cyclist” is

“didn’t see the cyclist” is the perfect and entirely reasonable excuse for their awful driving

You omitted the additional one which will almost always get you off with no difficulty: I didn’t mean to do it. This assists the police with their trump card which could work for any traffic offence if the police are idle or bent enough: only a momentary loss of concentration (in this case, of course, WYP are excused, along with the legendary Inspector Kevin Smith of Sheffield and ally Dame Sarah Storey)

Ribble have always been a bit like this, even prior to the supply chain problems. I have ordered four bikes from them

This rather suggests that people are so satisfied with their bikes when they eventually get them, that they’re prepared to put up with poor customer service. In a way, it’s a pretty good advert! (I don’t have one)

    Lancs Police really ought to

Lancs Police really ought to have the responsibility for the prosecution of these sort of FPN traffic offences taken away from them

They should have parts of their anatomy taken away from them!

    If the council have your

If the council have your details at that address somewhere else, like council tax, or electoral roll, I suspect ignoring it will trigger them to issue it again in the correct name. It’s unlikely to go away

It all rather depends on whether you would have to pay more in bribes than the proposed penalty, to make the offence go away. When the proper penalty is serious, people are prepared to pay more. Lancashire Constabulary officers must be doing a roaring trade because road traffic offences usually do go away: usually they just ignore red light offences by motorists, but if you follow-up cases they sometimes have to come up with some other dodge- generally, of course, they just ignore the ‘following-up’. I was informed by email that nothing could be done about the driver of Holdex Plywood heavy lorry SP12 CWY, of Bennington St, Audley Range, Blackburn BB1 1RR “because the NIP had been sent to the wrong address”- they don’t have to try too hard with excuses because of the laughable Lancashire Police Professional Standards department.

    Either large brown envelopes

Either large brown envelopes are being exchanged…

I’m pretty sure that Lancashire officers are operating a ‘cash for ignoring’ scheme in the failure to even acknowledge perfect video evidence of gross red light crashing offences. There are loads of them, nothing whatsoever has happened to any offenders, even the lorries, taxis, council highways vehicles and massive tipper trucks.

    I’m pretty sure there isn’t

I’m pretty sure there isn’t one pony in that whole forest which would be spooked by a cyclist

I’m certainly not about to read the hyper-junk press article, and I agree with your sentiment, but I’m not sure about the facts. I don’t know about horses in the New Forest, but I do know about sheep in enclosed fields in North Lancashire. I almost invariably say ‘Hello, sheep’ to sheep (it’s all this solo cycling!) so they ought to be used to one cyclist at least- however I was following a sedately driven vehicle the other day and the sheep in the field ignored it but as soon as I appeared from behind a dense hedge they all stampeded across the field away from me.

Cycling Mikey conviction rate will be going up

It wouldn’t if he was in Lancashire- here a driver could be using a hand-held mobile while crashing through a red light and still get away with it.

    One figure accurately
One figure accurately determined by me: there is less than 5% difference between times over the same 50k course comparing a Merlin titanium 25mm tyres 9 speed Ultegra and a heavy steel Vitus gravel bike 37 mm tyres 9 speed Sora. Of course 5% is a big difference in a race but a small difference for an individual

    Agreed, it’s not a building
Agreed, it’s not a building but it’s the same idea. This is on the bridge over the M6 at Holme, N Lancashire. The woman driver was turning left onto the bridge and totalled the car on the sturdily built end of the barrier which appeared completely undamaged. How is it that so many nut-jobs congregate on one brand? Are they tested before they’re allowed to buy, and barred unless in the bottom quartile for sense and intelligence and top quartile for psychopathy, aggression and narcissism?
