    Wodehouse was totally

Wodehouse was totally exonerated of any charge of collaboration

We’ll have to disagree- one man’s exoneration is another’s ‘finding excuses’. Living in luxury in Berlin while pretending to be a bewildered old buffer is no way to behave during a total war. Orwell died in the 40s, so doesn’t count- information has improved since then. Very bent and dodgy people do get knighthoods- Fred Goodwin, for a start

    Possibly my favourite lines

Possibly my favourite lines in all of Wodehouse are when Bertie Wooster attacks Roderick Spode, who has set up a group a fascists called the Blackshorts

Unfortunately, these expressed sentiments didn’t stop him disingenuously collaborating while in Nazi captivity

    Impressive data overlay.

Impressive data overlay. Please advise how you do that? Thanks

I have no doubt Rendel is right, but I am using the Go Pro Quik soft ware with a Go Pro Hero 7 Black. The hardware is good but the PC software is dire because it hasn’t been maintained for years. I think the camera is mainly for snowboarders with backwards peaked baseball caps who aren’t interested in GPS- so the phone software is what they want. However, I need a PC for what I want to do. My software is working at the moment, but it refused to load about 10 days ago for a couple of days. It’s probably something to do with Windows updates, and it may just stop completely at any time

     Their form states that they

Their form states that they want at least 2 minutes before and after the incident

The only function of these stupid ‘rules’ is to try and stop people reporting cases by making things difficult- they just make the rules up and there’s no such proper restriction. A GoPro original file of that length would be 2 GB, and you would have to compress it so much to get it under the file size limit they would then say it was inadequate quality! Lancashire used to try this one on with me, with a demand for 2 1/2 minutes before and after and I fought them over it, so they don’t try it any more. If they could get away with it, they would demand overhead drone video if they were sure nobody had it. I send in 15 seconds for red-light crossing offences, and these have been accepted and put with my signed statement on the MG11 form for a prosecution.

    I realise you’re not actually

I realise you’re not actually complaining to the PCC at the moment, but the general principle still applies: you have to keep going. If you give ground anywhere along the complaint pathway they will seize the opportunity to forget about it. I have bored people with the story of the police/ defence dodges used to discredit GPS speed measurements in a white line crossing case against a nutter close-passing, speeding and white-line crossing BMW. I have today performed the first (until I get it just right) 6 minute video in which I frequently glance down to the handlebar to display the speed readings on 2 adjacent Cateye cycle computers- one is over 20 years old, the other about 5 years old. I can place the GPS speedo on the screen between the 2 Cateyes, which are of course programmed with the same calibrated wheel circumference of 2166 mm. They differ by up to 1.5 kph instantaneously even though they come up with the same total distance at the end of the test- less than 0.33% difference. I attribute this to the newer Cateye having a 32 bit processor and being much faster in response than the old one. The video shows that the GPS always underestimates the true speed by up to 2 kph. The defence are trying to claim that when the GPS speedo says I’m travelling at over 20 mph, I’m really travelling at 10 in order to justify the obvious gross white line offence. They’re going to look stupid, so I hope they continue with the ‘Not Guilty’ plea

The money saved by using 9sp

The money saved by using 9sp chains, cassettes etc can go towards race entry fees

9 speed Sora is very good in its own right, and is not just cheaper rubbish. When I put the Sora gravel disc back on the road with replacement wheel I was suddenly having trouble with gears. I thought it was deteriorating- then it stopped changing altogether and I thought it was knackered. To cut the story short, I found the cable ferrule was jammed in the mech. and I had to discover how to get it out (beneath the rubber cover is a screw, remove it and the bottom shaped plastic piece comes out). New cable and it’s back to smooth perfection again- this is the first shifter I have had with the gear cable following the handlebar. The others came out straight towards the midline of the bike. I haven’t had a cable break in the shifter before, and it’s only 22 months old- do cables break more often in these cable-concealed shifters? The course of the cable looks nicely smooth and the new inner went in easily

I am an expert at this

I am an expert at this procedure, but I expect it varies with the area. In Lancashire, the PCC won’t accept complaints until they have been through the police’s own joke Professional Standards (Internal Affairs in the US, and in Scandinavia if the Scandi-Noirs are to be believed) complaint procedure. This, in Lancashire at least, is designed to wear out complainants by taking 6 months to come up with the pre-ordained conclusion that the police are very busy and therefore did as well as they could. The LCPS also comes up with completely barmy conclusions like: ‘although there is immaculate video of the illegal and dangerous white line crossing offence, we must have confirmatory video from the offending vehicle’. They have no shame! What I don’t know is whether the Lancashire PCC procedure is just as much of a joke, with a pre-ordained outcome, because it only began a couple of months ago (it’s about the force ignoring numerous red light crossing offences). The message is- whatever a complaint is about it’s going to take a year. The odds are stacked against you because the police definitely, and the PCC possibly, view the real enemy not as the offenders but as the people who complain about offences.

    Prosecution is the only
Prosecution is the only worthwhile aim- complaining to a ‘company’ is a waste of time. They don’t have to say who the driver is, and if he did it again they would just like and say it was a different driver. The police lie as well, but at least there is a trail of evidence which can theoretically be followed.

    PCC complaint went in, about
PCC complaint went in, about this and other issues, 8 months ago. They referred it straight back to the police to pursue their own ‘investigation’, who then spent 6 months wasting time and hoping I would forget about it. It’s now back with the PCC, which is essentially an outlying office of the police, who take more months to say the police are very busy and did as well as can be expected. I am amassing evidence to take it further, and the police are helping! Today’s dodge over that white line crossing BMW, is that the defence are demanding video without the GPS data. This is almost the stupidest thing yet in this case.

    it must be disheartening to

it must be disheartening to keep being given ‘reasons’ for them not to pursue them

Not at all, because Lancashire Constabulary never give any reasons; there’s just no response. They think that the cases are forgotten, but they aren’t- ruthless efficiency and close accounting is necessary in dealing with lying, always-dodging LC. There are several serious red-light offences from last year which went through all the witness statement, signing etc. procedure, which have never been heard of again. It’s now almost a month since I sent the fully documented request for information about them to the LC Court Presentation Officers- there has been one buck-passing reply a couple of days ago and nothing else. I think these were pretend prosecutions which never went ahead on the grounds that ‘he’ll just forget about them’…Now they have to think up another story. I’ll wait a couple of weeks and start the formal complaint if appropriate, and that will bring out lies upon lies. We’ll see

    Lancashire does not believe
Lancashire does not believe close passes where the cyclist is not killed or at least seriously injured exist, and does believe that cyclists in general and me in particular are whingeing softies who should just accept close passes and hits as part of life on the road. The hatred engendered in me as a result motivates me to hunt them down over dodgy dealings/ sabotaging their own prosecutions etc. This then leads them to foolish tricks like ‘ moving the case out of the area’ to stop me finding out what they’re doing. It’s not likely to work. Lancashire Constabulary is as bent as a nine-bob note- translation for the under 60s: bent as a £19 note.

    More funny business from

More funny business from Lancashire Constabulary: it was several months after the offence of 29.2.20 that LC decided to prosecute this driver- photo below. I made the formal statements and I eventually found out that the charge was about crossing the unbroken WL- no mention was made of the extremely close passing and the obvious 50-60 mph in a 50 limit (another clue- vehicle manufacturer?) or the almost identical offence by the same driver 2 days previously. All videos and stills are immaculate. I became more and more suspicious about dodgy dealings in this case- I was informed that there was a hearing at Preston on 1.10.21 and the driver was apparently pleading Not Guilty to the UWL offence, even though he is as guilty as sin. I decided I should attend as ‘a member of the public’ just to see what was going on. I enquired of the Court Presentation Officer on 20th August about the court details, and received a reply today that ‘the hearing details are under negotiation because the case may be moved out of area to be dealt with’. I think they’re trying to prevent me attending- and all for a relatively trivial open-and-shut case about an offence which is routine at this bridge and which LC almost invariably ignores completely.
