Well, for the initial two instances of swearing, it was more a “F – off”, as a distressed shout when I suddenly found someone driving about 10cm from my elbow, trying to squeeze me against a barrier. The second two F-bombs came less than 5 seconds later when the driver wound down the window to call me a “f-ing danger”, and which I pointed out where the real “f-ing danger” was.

To my mind, there is absolutely not a case for me to answer. The driver is deluded in pursuing this. My worry is why the police have chosen to pursue this.

    See Section 4A under https://www.cps.gov.uk/legal-guidance/public-order-offences-incorporating-charging-standard

AIUI, the prosecution would need to prove that your words caused harassment, alarm or distress to the driver. But if he has used the same language, I don’t see how he can claim to find such language distressing.

I’m assuming nobody else was in ear shot.

Japan heritage worker backs car into oldest toilet at Kyoto temple

A man whose job it is to help preserve Japan’s cultural heritage has accidentally smashed his car into the country’s oldest toilet at a centuries-old Buddhist temple.

    I’ve got accounts with Amazon

I’ve got accounts with Amazon, Bike Inn, Decathlon, Fawkes, Merlin, Outdoor GB, Sigma Sports, Sport Pursuit, Trendz and Tweeks (possibly a few others as well). So usually it’s just a question of who has the thing that I want, in stock, for the lowest price (including delivery).

A few years ago Decathlon were meant to be opening a store almost on my doorstep, but for whatever reason that didn’t happen. Halfords is really the only bike retailer close to me, but I haven’t been there in years.

    Quote:

    7) Due to the decriminalisation of a large number of traffic offences we are unable to deal with … the majority of offences relating to contravention of road traffic signs. This includes … “one-way street” and “no left/right turn” signs”

AIUI these are now dealt with by TFL / Local Councils. Can these be reported directly to them?

If someone, for example, drove the wrong way down a one-way street and forced you to brake and / or swerve to avoid a collision presumably the police could still deal with that as careless / dangerous driving?

I’ve got a couple of Chilli

I’ve got a couple of Chilli Tech PRO II Cameras that I’m pretty happy with. £107 for one, plus another £8 for a GoPro Bullet Cam adapter.

I have some footage here and here. Video quality is good for the price, battery lasts 2 hours and you can plug a power bank in the back (USB-C connector). Haven’t used it in anything more than light drizzle but it’s rated to IP67 so should be fine in the rain.

    legitimate grievances

Legitimate grievances is an interesting one. For example Dawn was protesting in Southampton, is “definitely not a racist”, but is upset because she “can’t even get a doctor’s appointment”. Also something about honour and sovereignty.

    Is that a legitimate grievance?

    There was the first reading

There was the first reading for a Private Members’ Bill for Graduated Driving Licensing in May. With the election I assume this now has to go back to the start of the process.

As far as I can tell, the bill has wide support and very little opposition. But the new government has a lot on its plate so I don’t know if they’ll find the time for it.

    You can buy another bike

You can buy another bike through the scheme regardless, even in the same year (e.g. a summer bike and a winter bike). See https://www.cycle2work.info/employees/faqs

Can I get more than one bike?

Yes! If you would like to get two bikes you certainly can – as long as they are both suitable and safe for you to ride, and your total doesn’t exceed your scheme’s maximum limit.
