If you want to spend some

If you want to spend some cash spend some cash but don’t use 270g saving to justify it.  I’m on the hunt for some 45mm deepish section wheels I’m under no illusion they will not make me faster but I will certainly look cool. Well in my head anyway!

I use my Tacx Flow indoors and upstairs on floorboards.  It’s not too bad but there’s resonance at certain speeds which annoys the wife.

Recently I constructed a base for the Tacx which uses a piece of plywood with four circular holes (38mm) sitting https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events/details/157888/Mike-s-Myton-Ride-2017on four tennis balls (about 65mm) acting as shock absorbers.  Costs about £4 and works really well – gives the whole setup a bit of bounce and seems to really reduce vibration.

now that is a good idea

    Riding the bracket again this

Riding the bracket again this year always  a good one to see how all the turbo training has been going.

also next month in Kenilworth 77mile all for charity.  Local to me so gives me an excuse to do a longer one.

    Your condition doesn’t affect

Your condition doesn’t affect me but I did listen to a podcast recently (just before or after Christmas) where they talked about long time endurance athletes and heart conditions.  From memory long time endurance  athletes have a higher risk of electrical issues with their hearts.

I believe the podcast was on velownews but can’t see it in my feed anymore.  It included a heart specialist who works with athletes. Below is one of lennard zinns posts that links to some other articals.  I’m not sure if it all relates to your condition but hope it helps.

    0.1mm under size to spec

0.1mm under size to spec sounds like a good thing with PF30 surely?  highly unlikely the bearing will distort the whole idea of the plastic cup is to distort to take up any tollerance.

If your dedicated rather than dipping and out trainerroad is by far the best. Not flashy like zwift but true training plans. they have a very good podcast as well that answers questions sent into them.

What does your tss and IF
What does your tss and IF look like compared to a typical summer week.

If you normally ride at high IF and are now doing base you are using muscle fibres that
don’t get used and neglecting the ones you use in the summer so trying to ride like its summer isn’t going to work because that fitness has dropped off in those fibres. My tss and IF are way down but my legs are killing me because I ride hard on the summer.

Good news is sticking with base and then moving on to build should give you a better 2017.

I have tacx vortex smart does

I have tacx vortex smart does the jon but still nothing like riding on the road.  I’ve used their app but only for ERG control and don’t bother now.

I used Zwift last year which was great and does have  a way of program workouts or pre de-defined ones it certainly did break up the bordem of sitting on a trainer.

This year i’ve gone more structured and am using trainerroad which apart from getting a coach seems th ebest current solution for structured trainer.  I’m on second week base and have learnt so much in just over a week.  Things i’ve read in books and online about trianing with power now make much more sense.  At two weeks in difficult to say on fitness imporvements you really do need to dedicate the time 6 hours x 12 weeks to really start to see results and the build from their.  So far I’ve actually found the endurance rides hardest mentally and physically.  Even though i ride alot i generally ride at tempo riding at zone 2 edurance is actually rather hard because i haven’t really ever used those muscle cells.  It is a little boring but the text guidance is great and music gets me through.
I haven’t used the android app as it’s doesn’t have all the features yet so i use a pc with an ant+ it reads power from both my power meter and the trainer and then controls the resistance.

My quarq which is basically SRAM requires a drive side spacer which was provided in the box. Well worth checking the crankset manual they are very good and available from the SRAM website.  You can run the 6800 if you just want to get out.

    I have a 2013 z4 so not disc

I have a 2013 z4 so not disc but same geo.  I’ve put nearly 7000 miles on been very reliable and still looks great still on original Bottom bracket bearings (bb30) I had a spoke go on the original shimano wheels but that just enabled an upgrade.  Comfortable & fast.  Upgraded end of last year to a Canondale Supersix which is more racey but requires more maintenance.  You couldn’t go wrong I’d say.  I still don’t see the point of disc but that’s personal choice.

edit just had another look identical to mine except mine is 10 speed Ultegra.

    Comparing materials is all
Comparing materials is all well and good but geometry plays an even more importAnt part. Compareing different styles of bikes and then saying it’s the material that makes the difference is kind of stupid.
I own a 2015 cannondale supersix evo hi mod and recently had the pleasure of doing 150 miles on a caad12. Both were brilliant but the supersix is certainly more reactive especially when out of the saddle or going up hill. On the downhill the caad was more stable and predictable and I had more confidence it was going to hold it’s line.
So let’s be clear both of these bikes have identical geo and both have pro’s and con’s I would buy a caad and wouldn’t feel I was missing much but that extra 5% mAkes the evo special and stupid expensive

I’m on Holiday riding a caad12 rim brake hire bike I own a Supersix Evo hi-mod which is the same geometry.  The only difference between them is a bit of weight the Evo can be a bit flighty the extra weight of the Caad12 helps with that.  I’d be more than happy with a Caad12 it’s brilliant.

I didn’t book and it’s on my doorstep great having a closed road event but not at that price. A few other people I ride with were going to but didn’t when they saw the price.  Plenty of other more challenging rides in the UK with support if that’s your thing.
