Could have been worse though, as you point out re your daughter. She’ll grow up saying you’re crap on rollers with you insisting it’s her fault!
I can just see a health and safety geek pointing out how avoidable this was though – it’s like one of those boring H&S sessions at work where they provide pictures and you point out the hazards! (Child, toolbox, clipless pedals etc!)

You looking for a club?
(I should clarify that I don’t race, so have no experience of that; I was referring more to the general attitude of the club and the atmosphere on group rides)

This is why I joined the smallest club I could find, with minimal organisational structure or anything. Don’t see the problem with taking a pull just because your break was caught? Wonder if the pecking order was such that you ‘shouldn’t’ have attacked? Be interested to hear what the club captain has to say.notfastenough

I would think don’t try to
I would think don’t try to park the van too close to the race route. Rely on the bikes a bit (but not too much, don’t want to be late).notfastenough
I tend to go in Evans because
I tend to go in Evans because me and my missus are in a town (any town!) and she’s trying on dresses/shoes etc somewhere, so I wander off, checking the web for local bike shops to have a peek in, and they are often Evans. I have had someone try and palm me off with a type of bike that I specifically said I didn’t want, and when I asked them to pop a Toupe saddle onto a bike so I could sit on it, I was told “that’s a bit too much trouble, really”. No kidding! My local Cycle Surgery is really helpful, provided the bike shop guys are working. If they’re not around and the manager replaces them with a guy from Snow and Rock or Runners Need, then the last one said he didn’t have any 700c inner tubes; he had 700 ones though.

Super Domestique wrote:In fact at the Road Show I was told the de Rosa was made in same factory as Spesh.Be careful though, ‘same factory’ doesn’t mean to ‘same spec’. The factory supplies the robots, manpower, tooling, skills etc. That’s just legwork in the end (important though it is).
Carbon of a particular grade is just that, and ought to be the same whichever factory you asked to make your firm’s products, provider of the raw material notwithstanding.
The gap here though is in the specification which is requested by the customer (i.e. the bike brand) – tube shape, wall thickness, monocoque (or not), layup directions, cable routing, aero properties. All this is intellectual capital that needs to come from the brains at RnD. Spesh spend a lot on RnD, so I don’t doubt the quality of your new kit. De Rosa – dunno – looks like a lot of money without knowing where it’s going.
Pinarello talk up their wiggly tubes a lot, but I reckon one of the main reasons for them is simply to avoid being the same as other bikes, and therefore accused of ‘coming from the same mould’.
Think of it like the Chinese firm Foxconn – they make most (all?) of Apple’s kit, as well as stuff for other manufacturers, but we don’t think of Apple’s hardware as being the same as Samsung’s, even if both use some common components.

When I got mine from Graham
When I got mine from Graham Weigh Cycles (same region as your two shortlisted) the guy serving me pointed out a row of nude carbon frames and said “some are ours, these three were a cancelled order for Dolan, these others are Ribble, blah blah but they are all basically the same thing.” I think the one I ended up with was a originally a Dolan, but now has Graham Weigh graphics. Great bike, but I think you’d be better spending time thinking about the other bits you’re going to fit to the frame. Just buy the one with the nice look/paint job.For what it’s worth, my use of the bike is the same as you describe.
