Bolle prescription eyewear. I’ve got two pairs of Bounty frames- they are more curved than you would expect to be able to accommodate -8.00 prescription, work really well. Thick end of £300 though.

If you afford it, get a bike fit. Where are you? I can recommend two in the north-west of England.
If you can’t stretch to that right now, video yourself pedalling on a turbo (from directly behind or in front), and post it on here. You’ll get a bunch of good suggestions. And we’ll laugh at the dodgy curtains in the background!

Don’t underestimate the value
Don’t underestimate the value of a club for learning bunch riding skills. I’ve only done a few sportives, but the general level of roadcraft was lower than club riding, and people were more spaced out.

Sorry Dave, Simon etc, but I feel like my most-visited site for the last couple of years has sold out somehow. A redesign that seems to have killed off the community aspect, ridiculously annoying ads such as the one referred to above, and even popups advertising cars. I may as well read any anonymous site such as bikeradar. Sorry chaps.

I don’t mind the layout on my full web browser (not tried it on mobile yet), but losing the comments isn’t a good move. When I come to the site, I first scan the headlines, then the latest comments in the side bar, clicking on the interesting ones. Without the comments, the site doesn’t feel as accessible. I’m presented with a series of articles, but lack the ability to engage in the conversation without dropping into each article and scrolling down. Sure, the number of comments against the story will tell me if anything is being posted, but that doesn’t tell me if they are worth reading – I don’t know, for example, if an article about infrastructure has descended into a helmet debate!

I suffered with this recently
I suffered with this recently on my carbon trek after a crash. I took it to servicing-only place (popup bikes in Manchester, fab place) and they confirmed the drive side clicking when under load (and as it only happened when your right foot was between 3 and 6 o clock “definitely” drivetrain-related) They spent all day on it, stripped the BB, rear hub, all sorts. Eventually someone says “he crashed it, let’s tighten the bars!” Sorted!The trick, apparently, was in how sound resonates through carbon. Under certain circumstances the vibration moves through the frame and emerges as sound somewhere else entirely.

Even though it’s little in the context of sponsoring a team of elite athletes, it’s still a proper wedge isn’t it? I have my own business (nothing fancy, just one-man-band stuff), but faced with the prospect of parting with even £5-10k a year from the company coffers, my rational side would have to get stuck right in and challenge where the return was coming from. And that amount isn’t going to get me any free kit or a training camp jolly, either. Thank god for nutters like Oleg Tinkov, eh?!notfastenough

Your aches and pains sound like a positioning issue, and in that respect an experienced shop bod who can ensure you get the right fit is at least as important as the bike. For what it’s worth, my friend sounds like similar dimensions to you and loves her men’s cannondale synapse.However, crikeys reply is far more entertaining…

I’d be wary of this, since any tiny discrepancy in the alignment of the dropouts could affect stability at speed. I wouldn’t want to discover some previously unknown shimmy on a fast descent. New forks?

I get it on my Trek Madone, which I thought was a worry, but it isn’t. The only I notice it is when stationary or very slow.Although it does make me ensure that if I have to ride through a really deep puddle, I don’t slow down TOO much so as not to have it happen and have to unclip and get wet.

Yep, all of the above. I used to navigate round the site using the ‘recent posts’ sidebar, so that one is frustrating. It is unusual for a site that generates enough traffic that it retains proper paid staff, to performs quite as slowly as this one often does.notfastenough

I reckon if you can do 60-70 you’ll be fine, but I’d back off the volume about 3 weeks before. Defo don’t do 90 the week prior.I did 80 a fortnight before riding 205 miles in a weekend, and was fine. The challenge was taking regular breaks to stretch my neck and eating regularly.
