I try to be cool in
I try to be cool in confrontations (no amount of martial arts training is going to cancel out a pair of Speedplay cleats – they’re slippery as f***!) but I must admit, sometimes if a horn goes close behind you the adrenalin kicks in immediately. In this situation, to my shame I have shouted “What?! Chill out!” then felt a little sheepish later.Take it easy everyone and have a great christmas. Remember, every mince pie is another interval or two! 👿

Super pedals, I really rate
Super pedals, I really rate my zeros. They were stiff at first, but I simply use a slightly high gear to allow me to exert more pressure in order to clip in.As an aside, I do wonder if a potential thief would look at them and think “Bollox – I can’t pedal on something that small!”
The other thing with the float is that most systems use a spring-based float i.e. the cleat is encouraged to return to a neutral position within the float range, whereas speedplay float is free. This is why some people describe them as like ice-skating at first, but really good once you’re accustomed to the feeling.

Point taken. Most car enthusiasts I know wouldn’t want a tracking device on their pride and joy, on the basis that once it’s been taken and had the bollocks driven off it, why would they want it back? Rather have the insurance money.December 19, 2011 at 12:59 pm in reply to: Being a big girls blouse as it is too cold to ride…who is brave and riding in the cold? #659111notfastenough

I’m not bothered about the cold, but the thin layer of sleet over the thin layer of ice which I found yesterday morning sent me off to a spinning class instead. (Wuss! I hear you shout! 😀 ) It’s all miles in the legs.notfastenough

You can buy double-sided
You can buy double-sided pedals can’t you, with SPD on one side and clips/straps on the other? They seem to be on the spinning bikes at my gym anyway…Are you put off slightly due to the faff of putting on the right shoes? Not being able to walk in the shoes?

I’m guessing that DI2 carries
I’m guessing that DI2 carries a weight penalty over the mechanical equivalent(?) If this is the case, then given that SRAM Red is lighter than Dura-Ace, (and DA is lighter than Ultegra), have you checked out the total weight difference and assessed whether that matters to you? What about mechanical Dura-Ace? What’s the price difference between that and UDi2? I can’t help thinking that something with the evolution and ‘tried-and-tested’ history of mech DA has a lot going for it.
Either way, sounds like it will be a lovely bike, and I’m jealous of the climate difference, the weather on my ride was miserable today! :”( 😀

Right, quick update. Found
Right, quick update. Found an optician with a reasonable relationship with Bolle. The B-thinactive product (not bi-thinactive Cat1commuter, think that’s something entirely different! :-D) was due for release on Tuesday 6th Dec, but has been postponed for two weeks due to admin issues with pricing or documentation or something. So anyway, the rep told the optician that my -6.50 was “a relatively moderate requirement, and would be no problem at all” to cater for. The optician is setting up a meeting for the rep, herself and me to look at the product, because he won’t leave samples or anything with them. No word on pricing until they are closer to the revised release date. It’s not gonna be cheap!
Seems there’s some serious voodoo going on though, because even with a concave lens, it’s somehow thinner at the edges in order to fit into frames and not look too thick even on half-rims like many cycling specs. Work that one out!
Oh, and apparently there is a photochromatic offering (Transitions, in English).
Also, there is an alternative option if you don’t fancy Bolle. Norville are a company that make safety and sports specs, and have a similar innovation, but the crucial difference was that they only provide the lenses; you use any frames you like. Anyone for Cav’s green Oakleys?!
Anyway, I’ll post more as I get it.

Damn, thought I’d be able to get that edit in before anyone replied! 😀 I’d hope for the b-thinactive stuff really, as mentioned above (but after you posted)… -
