Not sure about this given that the games lanes are on the right – do the cars overtake you on the right or left?

0.2 milligrams per cubic cm! They could make the frames out of solid tubing and still not end up with a bike heavy enough to race.

    “Xipamide is a
“Xipamide is a prescription-only, orally administered diuretic drug. It is also knows as Diurexan, the brand name under which it may be found in a pharmacy. A doctor typically prescribes the drug, in tablet form, to a patient dealing with high blood pressure. In these cases, high blood pressure is caused not by arterial fat buildup, but by high sodium levels in the blood. Since water follows solutes (solid matter), high levels of sodium in the blood will cause increased water retention in the bloodstream as well, putting excess strain on the heart as it tries to move the extra fluid.
Diuretics are typically used in sport as masking agents. Although that term is a misnomer, as diuretics don’t actually mask anything, they conceal the presence of a drug by helping to flush it from the body through increased urination. Using this effect, an athlete could use Xipamide to help remove traces of banned substances prior to a doping control.”

Right, just went onto the trainline and after some fumbling around, came up trumps with a saturday day travelcard – return journey plus tube zones 1-6 for ÂŁ74 for the two of us. Assuming we actually manage to get there(!)*, I reckon that’s a really good price.

    * General games-related travel shenanegins notwithstanding

This seems like a good buy – it’s really sturdy, those four legs aren’t going anywhere. Agreed about a bit of lagging for the tube clamp, and the widget for holding the handlebars in place seems like a bit of an afterthought, but overall really pleased with it.

I’ve never seen an exercise bike with a saddle I could spend 8 hours on. Good idea though, I wonder if they can do it in bits, like 2 hours a day?

As for what convicts could be doing, they could be sorting the contents of bins for recycling and thus preventing the eyesore of four different bins outside everyone’s house.

Yes, they would complain about their human rights.

I did 43 miles in Wales yesterday with, according to Strava, 2,545 of climbing. Our club run regularly clocks around 3k feet, with the highest one I’ve done at 3,888 feet.

6,188m (the amount of climbing in the circle of death) is 20,301 feet. Even if I had a week off, I’d need some serious preparation to ride these distances/climbs on consecutive days to hit the target.

    So, no!

    Pffft

Well it does seem that he genuinely acknowledges that his lifestyle, relationships and responsibilities are more important than simply winning races.

Why – you think he’s not clean?

Makes for interesting reading – thanks for posting, Stumps.

“I can tell this is your first interview” he said, my heart should have sunk but it didn’t, instead I fought back “I can tell it’s your millionth” – class!

Nice interview – when I read the usual questions (in most interviews) I find myself cringing at what the interviewee must be thinking, but I didn’t get that with this – good effort, especially for a first go!

Interesting points. I was mulling over yesterday how, if I was into another sport, like Football say, I could probably find a local pub team or something that would suit me, without needing to be much good at it, and take part in competitions/leagues etc. With cycling though, the entry level for racing (it seems to me) consists of guys with a much higher level of fitness than normal. So unless you commit to such levels of training, then in terms of bunch riding, you are a bit confined to sportives and club runs.

Then again, even if you could introduce a lower level (cat 5?) of racing, aimed at average guys and girls who ride a couple of times a week, the sheer risks of riding in a group that generally lacks experience would likely result in more crashes than usual, so you probably wouldn’t want to be on the open road.

I’m with a small club, so we enter sportives etc and a few race, but we don’t hold our own events – we just don’t have the numbers or a sufficiently high profile to be honest.

I know this may be unpopular to say BUT do you think that Froome and Wiggins might be on more than just Weetabix?

Interesting how they can take so much time out of Fabian’s time. A few seconds – perhaps. But minutes?

I think it’s more that the emphasis has been different. Sky more or less just ‘survived’ the first week (notwithstanding Cav’s stage win) where Spartacus gave it some real beans to stay in yellow so long, and Cadel’s babysitting group always looked strong. Now that’s out of the way, Sky are coming into their own. The gaps wouldn’t be so big if another team had the riders and and a similar strategy to put in a strong showing on the climbs. Dave B is sometimes criticised on a tactical level, but strategically he’s the master, and that’s what we’re seeing here.

Froome has been good at TTs for a while – h’e been picked for the Olympic TT ahead of Dave M remember.
