Cheers Simon, it was about 48 miles in all that evening, but weirdly I didn’t seem to find the pacing for the TT a problem. That said, I’m no good sprinting over short distances anyway, so perhaps it’s an offshoot of that, or maybe I didn’t empty the tank enough, but we did have to ride 18 miles home again afterwards.

The fastest time on the night was 22:something, which when compared to our faster-than-me-but-non-aero guys at 25:something, we reckoned probably cost £2-3k per minute! There was one guy who had a van that we reckoned was just for his cycling stuff – add that to his rollers and the aero gear that gave him the look of a b*stard lovechild of Wiggo and Mork from Ork (younger readers need not ask who Mork is!) and you’re right about the bottomless pit.

As for Raleigh, I expect you’re training like a pro over the school holidays, I expect you to be in a junior rainbow jersey in Autumn!

They must have sounded completely lost explaining that one… they were probably shrugging shoulders at each other without a camera on them.

I don’t think they want a top-tier sprinter – someone for the 2nd-tier races maybe, but for the GTs, I think it’s going to be 8 supporting guys for the GC hope.

    Interesting ones are:

    Nibali to Astana
    Oss to BMC
    Apollonio, Flecha, Nordhaug leaving Sky
JTL to Sky (hoping he has a good season)

Good on him. He admitted in an interview I read that he is paid more than the average premiership footballer, but the effort and sacrifices these guys make dwarf anything a footballer does, and Cav in particuar is far from average.

Think you mean you are not
Think you mean you are not able to do Sundays?

As for the question, it’s a bit of a catch-22, but you might have more luck once you’re in a club. We have regular emails going round saying “can’t do Sunday, anyone fancy Saturday?” etc.

We’re up north though, so no good for you.

I didn’t buy it recently, but last Sunday I got first proper chance to use my Rapha Rain Jacket (bought in the sample sale for £50, before anyone crows about it) as opposed to my lighter weight pak-a-jak. Awesome piece of kit.

    What Drheaton said!

As for the wheels, how much do you want to pay? PlanetX’s deep section carbon offerings seem reasonably well-regarded. If I had the best part of £500 to spend I’d probably look at Soul wheels. The UK distie rep posts on here occasionally.

Fancy selling your equipes then? I might be interested.

“The 16-year-old Chinese swimmer Ye Shiwen, who smashed records in the 400 metres medley, was last seen heading out to sea at speeds of over 80 knots with her coach on her back.

Olympic official Roy Hobbs said: “We’d hesitate to accuse a young girl of cheating when she’s achieved something so special, but we do need to take a look at her blowhole at some point.

“A younger swimmer can often improve dramatically over a short period of time without recourse to mindbendingly strong steroids but even the strongest attack of puberty doesn’t usually cause somebody to start communicating via a series of clicks and squeaks.

“I’m not being cruel about her looks, she’s far prettier than Frankie Boyle. But when a search of the changing rooms reveals a bucket of sprats and a zip-up rubber costume with a human face, something has to be done.””

I wonder what the tickets cost for that badminton session? You would be mighty pissed to have paid a few hundred quid for a few seats, only to see that.

Interesting viewpoint. I’ve been thinking the opposite, because they seem intent on demonstrating national power in the way the Russians used to.

Maybe you’re right, but I would be utterly unsurprised to find a state-backed doping programme, sufficiently well-researched to avoid the testers.

Alternatively, there’s always the old-school Chinese training programmes where they get the kids as little more than toddlers, full time in a martial arts/acrobatics/theatre etc school. Not very nice methods though.

Given the injury issues, do you want to be riding at the intensity associated with sufferfest or 3lc videos? I could see you working up to using them, and they are both well-regarded.

As for turbo or rollers, I think it’s personal preference, but I wouldn’t want to come a cropper off rollers with a dodgy hip.
