Being a 30 month owner of an X I would say it’s easy,
    Almost anything else!
It’s not a bad bike as far as modern far east steel goes but it is nothing special.
Go to Planet x and buy a Kaffenback for a lot less. I have both and I know which I prefer. Ihe x is a clunker even with the carbon forks.
Then again most modern steel bikes are like this unless they are top spec ones made of something like 853 tubing. Note that CdF’s are in 2 spec’s.
Being an old sod I use as a reference 531. I bet most of my generation do. Anything heavier than this is surely a retrograde step? I know weight isn’t everything but it’s not needed, especially at a high price. steel that isn’t a well known make and model is almost certainly gas pipe.
Lots of generalisations I know but they mostly correct.

    if half litre disposable
if half litre disposable bottles won’t fit in your pockets shove one or 2 down the back of bib shorts, Not too uncomfortable and can be emptied into main bottles fairly soon. there’s an extra litre easily enough.
have carried the odd puri tab if in the mountains. Usually fine to top up from faster streams anyway.

    Nope. Generally nothing
Nope. Generally nothing Campag matches. I suppose brakes do but each manufacturer does have its own pull so I guess even those might be a no. Shimano cassettes match SRAM and that’s about it. I think SRAM and Shimano front mechs swap, my MTB ones do but nowadays it is safest to say that in theory nothing is interchangeable. Of course you could start thinking about shimergo but you had better look at the CTC forum for that.
Exceptions can be made but they can be experimental.

why NL? Its also the UK colours? Flag design has nothing to do with it.
I have yet to see a decent UK jersey although the super bright track one is OK. Just be thankful it wasn’t that abortion they wore at the Olympics. The cretin who designed it and those who approve it should hang their heads in shame.

Hence I have to do something I never do and go mail order.

If you are happy with it use it. If you feel unhappy with comments growa thicker skin.
IMHO wearing team kit it “unfortunate” as you don’t ride for that team. It’s rude (although I suppose you could say that the kit manufacturers have given permission) P
People often link this to wearing footy strip.
Well thats equally stupid if you are not playing for the team

You may find that the biggest
You may find that the biggest worry is worry!
In the early 80’s we used tubs a lot more as the supply/choice of clincher’s was small. As you all carried a spare it you had enough in a group to have a puncture at both ends without carrying two. Now you will be on your own and in theory….
Having said that I think tub punctures are a lot less likely. Smacking ruts doesn’t matter so much.

I despise the throwaway anature of shimano. Its so wrong especially in sport that likes to spout its green credentials.
Stripping Ergos is easy, STi, not a hope.Still using my 8 speed Record ergos. without any maintainence since I bought them used in ’91. On my CX bike.

    If you are regularly dropped
If you are regularly dropped then it suggests that you are in the wrong group and as a courtesy to the rest you should go elsewhere.
A newcomer should be made aware of the group speed and maybe a one off allowance made but if they are way out, eg a fat novice on a BSO trying to run with a bunch of first cats, then it should be politely mentioned that they are in the wrong place.
