How the hell do you find your way around the site. No way to select various pages. Surely a list of sectiosn, eg forumn, reviews etc should be on the front page. Had to search for the forum via google to get here to moan.
Less news on that page but big enough to be read from space.
Cycling weekly here I come. Sorry.

Take a perfectly good news page , remove most of the news and pretend its better.

Support is a rather strong
Support is a rather strong word which to my mind means going along and joining many others shouting at your chosen team. 🙂
Show an interest is more the phrase I use. (each to their own of course). Anyway, I suppose its a national interest I have but sadly Froome is as uninteresting as they come. Him rather than the other Gc contenders I suppose but would happily see any other Brit win first. After individual Brits I suppose its riders I like the style of really eg those who can do anything.
Team loyalty is pointless, its pure marketing so has no national or regional value. Supporting manufactures of kit had never crossed my mind, that’s like supporting a car maker to win a GP or a boat maker to win the Boat race. Why?
As I said each to their own.mattsccm
Thing is the sport doesn’t
Thing is the sport doesn’t just stick with normal human levels. It adds so much that isn’t natural. Gels being one. Not saying that doping should be allowed, just questioning the line drawn? After all injections are a modern norm as are other banned medicines.
On another point, it is no ones responsibility to look after the health of a adult except themselves. Immoral to do otherwise.mattsccm
Why?
Nothing wrong with that
Why?
Nothing wrong with that and it will get the point across that it is about time journalists stopped banging on the drugs drum because they cannot think of a clever question.mattsccm

Surely the OP is pulling our plonkers ? A 5 second fit is plenty. They cannot now be sold as new so why should they be replaced.
It’s a sad situation that so many shops are put in this stupid situation by a stupid law. +why should people have the right to reject just because they got it wrong or were too tight to go to a real shop and pay a bit more.
I have no objections to returns if a product is defective but otherwise it should be at the sellers discretion. No doubt many sellers would offer returns but to make it compulsory is just another example of the sad and selfish society we live in where no one takes responsibility for anything.mattsccm
I see why people buy the
I see why people buy the things. Firstly they are cheap and I for one do not subscribe to the idea that expensive is best. That’s just shows off your wealth which is fine but who is so stupid as to throw away money?
Of course greater price can reflect greater quality and we all have our favourites in that respect. The wife won’t buy cheap meat and I won’t buy cheap willies. Price is not always proportional to quality. To me Rapha isn’t 10 times as good a quality as Aldi. It doesn’t last 10 times as long . Fit can’t be included as that’s personal.
The other point is that many of us try not to pay for what we don’t get. How do we really know if the genuine Willier or what ever isn’t the same as a copy? The manufacture’s claims have to be biased at best. I don’t see any issue in some one making a profit. In fact its downright immoral not to but at the same time not from me! :))
Finally will the pompous political whinger above clear off, this is a cycling websitemattsccm
The thing I didn’t like.
The thing I didn’t like. Apart from a twatish driver, was the fact that you were in the gutter. Be brave. The worse the traffic the more you need to ride properly . Get in the middle of the lane and stay there. If you really feel that you can’t stay there it at least allows you to pull over at the very last second creating a gap that the driver didn’t allow for.mattsccm

I read this , eventually , as him wanting some very light longs. See last para.
Why not just buy leg warmers that fit? I don’t know mine are there. Of course I had to actually go to a shop.mattsccm

I am sure that I am not the only one here who is confused or bemused by this. Until the whole car tax and cyclists issue popped up fairly recently I had never associated the tax with paying for roads.
It was a tax, just like any other. Its payment didn’t have anything to do with one expenditure, just like my income tax or VAT doesn’t. It was just a way of grabbing money.mattsccm
Might I suggest doing it
Might I suggest doing it yourself?
A bike is simple technology. Few specialist tools are needed and those a fairly cheap. Certainly you could buy the lot and all the parts you need for way less than a shop service. ( I am of course excluding things like BB facing tools as these are one off jobs that don’t usually need doing)
I view shop maintenance as the same as getting your living room painted. Absolutely no need, it’s easy. One or two things get easier with practice but care and patience produces a first rate job by even an amateur.
To call shops a rip off is not right. You know what it costs, and you are paying for a service. If you don’t like the rice they are asking don’t ask them to do it.mattsccm

The odd rabbit. bug it in the pot!
Last night was about normal. Near misses on about a dozen bunnies and stacks of sheep lurking in the gutter. ” different boar, sodding great big ones who decided to play chicken they could have stood still and a heap of the stripy little buggers as well who get everywhere, can take you off and worse have a evil big mum in the buses nearby. I don’t count squirrels as they move too fast. Weds saw a Fallow buck miss me by a few yards.
Nothing beats the near miss on deer a few years ago., Pissed and going like the clappers down hill in the dark. Minimal lighting and to much beer jus showed e a shadow moving very fast across my front, left to right. My befuddle state said owl but why could I hear its feet on the road. The next morning fund deer hair my right elbow.mattsccm
Maintenance with discs is
Maintenance with discs is easier. Just don’t lube the discs. They do cope with buckled rims better which may be a virtue and of course they won’t wear the decent mileage in crappy weather and it might be. I was getting less than 3000 miles out of a front rim on mixed gravel and tarmac. Harder than most admit ably. Costs etc are much the same. All this depends on your riding style.
Ignore weight unless you weigh the same as Froome and race as hard. Other wise its vanity only.
1 nice virtue is that it is easier to swap between wheels, say your best pair and another as rims have different profiles which will be more noticeable than the tiny difference between discs.
I wouldn’t worry about the bandwagon issue, many of us have been on it for several years. (about 6 in my case). Nothing will be redundant as QR disc front wheels have been around for decades and still will be. Plenty out there if you are worried about a QR fork becoming redundant.
Many people may not be worried about discs and find that their braking is fine without them. That’s the only negative to discs for no weight weenies. why change what you don’t worry about?
No one can tell you what you need, sorry.
However as I doubt you would buy a bike without a ride, why not try both? As the bikes you suggest are so different you obviously have an open mind so are not just tied to those two.mattsccm
Yes they are.
You have proved
Yes they are.
You have proved yourself that its not the equipment that’s dangerous but the rider.
You want your head testing to be riding on open roads with cars about at that speed. Just as a car driver would for driving faster than the road conditions allow. Its fair enough on closed roads but you have proved that the conditions were not acceptable as it went wrong. The brakes were not to know but you should have made that assessment.
Its not a personal attack, and I would defend your right to do so in the right circumstance, but the same applies when a car driver tail ends another in a traffic queue or can’t stop at legal speeds when a deer walks out or maybe a dim-witted kid.
The brakes work, humans don’t use them properly.
In most circumstances (exceptions are largely red herrings in most things in this world) disc brakes are more effective. What may not illustrate this is how or when they are used.
Disc brakes have few if any disadvantages. They do have some advantages. Power is the main one. I have very short fingers which means that basically its hard to get a decent pull on any brake. The fact that discs give more oomph makes up for my limited power. I do wonder if the deaths of those two women recently would have happened if they had been using discs? The inquest for the one in Devon??? suggested that she had “cyclists palsy”. Daft term to describe either the numbness cyclists get in their hands or the aches that happen on long descents if you hold the brakes for a long time. The death in Winnats pass fits that general theory as well. Just wondering of course.
Nope. To say that disc brakes are dangerous is wrong. They just didn’t work for you in that situation and can you prove that rim brakes would have done so?mattsccm
Anything longer than a short
Anything longer than a short mech will do 29 and even then it can be persuaded. I use Comp and Race triple rear mechs with a 30t shimergo set up with no issues. Pretty cheap 2nd hand.
Why not keep your eye open for a used compact chainset. 50/34. Plenty of square taper stuff out there. Even some Campag. One snag is that they will mostly be JIS taper which Campag isn’t. Not probs, a cheaper Shimano square taper BB will be well under 2o quid.
Drop the front mech a tad and it will work.
Forget the 10 speed bit with chainsets.
9 speed Campag is very tolerant of mismatches. Its also worth selling and I bet you could shift a complete 9 speed groupset if tidy for nearly enough to by a complete Veloce 10 speed groupset if you wanted to.
