Ignore the chest size and look for something that fits your arse and legs. If between sizes try another make or go down a size.
I am a touch taller and use small or medium.
More importantly think about leg length. Too long and you will look like Don Estelle. And you will look like Wiggins who has no style at all.
Shutt VR shorts are a touch shorter than most but still not Sean Yates short. I use a medium in theirs as I was a good 32 waist but small would fit well now.mattsccm
The poster way above who
The poster way above who objected to some one objecting to swearing really does need to think a bit. In no case is swearing in public acceptable.
Full stop, no exceptions.
This is an open forum and young people do read it. Your opinion (and mine) is subservient to normal rules of social behaviour . And Swearing doesn’t fit socially acceptable behaviour no matter how common it may become.
para 10.2 is correct. Cyclists must become more responsible and law abiding. anyone who breaks the law is wrong. NO questions there. Rude and offensive riding is wrong.
No where above is the stupid and dangerous driving of motor vehicles mentioned so there is no place for this thread to have comments on that!March 18, 2014 at 7:40 pm in reply to: Why are cyclocross bikes so much more expensive than similar hybrids? #781371mattsccm
I was going to point for the
I was going to point for the shifters for a start. Maybe better to compare bikes of the same price and see what you get.mattsccm
I reckon you can have some
I reckon you can have some nice ones built for that. Pick a rim and hub, buy your, own spokes, bung them together loosely and pay your local expert to finish them off.
My plan for the same type of wheels.mattsccm
Any idea where I can get bulk
Any idea where I can get bulk buys of patches. I did have a bag of 100 but suddenly they were all gone.
Alright after 10 years maybe.mattsccm

But where does one stop? Just above the shorts line? I would look like I was wearing hairy shorts then. Thighs. How about waist level? Balls and arse could do with it. Then I would look like I was wearing a hairy shirt!mattsccm
The ones I have seen don’t
The ones I have seen don’t give much time. You need to be across the junction to not be venerable. ASL’s don’t half wind up a lot of car drivers and they race to get past.
I pass one daily. Its has some stupid little lane up the LHS which encourages people to filter rather than wit and then they go straight on, ignoring the left turning cars.
It struck me that these cycle lanes should take a more gradual corner with a sodding great big post between the bike lane and the car lane. A nice right angle for cars etc would slow their turn whereas a more gentle curve would allow cycles to turn faster and easier.
Would solve rights I know but one step at a time.mattsccm
Might I suggest ignoring them
Might I suggest ignoring them numbers and buying what ever seems comfy. You don’t buy shoes by the size, you just use the size to show you to roughly the right shelf in the shop.
The world is full of bikes with guard eyes pick something at the sportier end of those.
Bear in mind that the handling of a race bike is foul fully loaded.December 16, 2013 at 7:25 am in reply to: Would people prefer it if we turned off commenting on reports of fatalities? #765795mattsccm

Turn them off. They serve no purpose apart from winding people up.
In fact I think comments on most news items are not needed. Its news not discussion. Its happened not something that we are being asked about.
And finally comments mean and do nothing in the real world.
Be a much nicer place.mattsccm
I have always assumed that
I have always assumed that they are aimed at reducing the number of cyclist by putting them in front of a mass of impatient traffic. Unless cycles have a different set of lights even more mods won’t help.
I cannot believe that anyone will filter, cycle lanes excepted up the left of vehicles.

I have used CO2 for m/c
I have used CO2 for m/c puntures for 30 years. Great things. Of course they only work once.
I often carry the pump but also 1 CO2 bulb. That will get 100psi+ in and there is still a pump as a back up.
Having aid that I have never had to hold the pump onto the valve and I have the same pump as you. Any pump where you don’t have a hose has to be held with your finger supporting the valve so those finger almost automatically hold the pump as well. In fact that allows a two handed action which is great at high pressure. 1 other thing. The longer the pump, the better it will be.December 9, 2013 at 7:38 am in reply to: Should bike shops become collection points for on line sales? #764983mattsccm

Wouldn’t work for me. I refuse to buy things like furniture if I can’t take it with me. I want to swap cash for parts. Delivery to me is a bad thing not a good thing. In fact its the very opposite of what a good shopping trip should be.
It would be a as bad as mail order where you pay for something then it doesn’t turn up or it isn’t in stock despite the magic lantern saying it is. If you have it in your hand you know you have it. If you can’t get it you haven’t parted with your money and you can buy an alternative if you want.mattsccm
You my be getting into small
You my be getting into small handling changes as things lie trail may change. something I have never got my head around. Ask the same question on the CTC forum where there are several people who will give detailed answers.
I would go for it. You could look for other forks of course.mattsccm
Try Devils claw. I think it
Try Devils claw. I think it works for me.
Many people will advise twiddling rather than pushing a big gear. worth a try but I find that worse as my knee moves more times and with less controlled/restrained pressure. I don’t go silly high but do keep a low cadence where possible. I also found that my full suspension bike made things worse. It boiled down to my seat being further behind the BB and I was scooping the pedals more. the road bike is much better and moving the seat forward helped to a small extent.mattsccm

Tried the Cheltenham shop for a disc braked road/CX bike. Choice ok but the nipper who tried to sell to me knew sod all or was incorrect. Didn’t know that 105 was “above ” Tiagra as an example.
Same in most bike chains in any sport. -
