Don’t even try to take a full-size bike on the Underground. You’ll be stopped immediately and if they catch you on a train you’ll be fined.

TfL are very conscious about safety issues on the Underground and will act to remove you.

The Tube is heaving most of the day and you’ll be annoying a lot of short-tempered people.

There are a very few lines on which bikes are permitted. Stick to them. The Overground is ok. But never on any line at rush hour. It’s hard enough to get yourself on, let alone a bike.

Just cut out a bit of helicopter tape and put it on the bottom. Protects the carbon sole and has a bit more bite to it.

Big feet, big hands here. Toe overlap surprised me at first on my Canyon Ultimate AL, but it’s no problem at all except where I have to ride through a gate while doing a 180º turn. I’ve got better at pedaling at the right moment to avoid the front wheel…

There’s a host of those fake bike shops online, all based in SE Asia. They clearly skim off some real bike shop since the websites look competent and the descriptions and images are right.

    But they are all fakes.

Basically I never buy anything from a shop that doesn’t have a physical address and a landline phone number. If in doubt, go on Google Streetview.

My wife won’t let me sell the Bianchi because she loves the colour so much. Not that I want to. So when a NOS Colnago EPS frame appeared recently I told her about the history of Colnago’s mad paint jobs, and I think she gets it. Now there’s a vintage Columbus KL frame on top of the wardrobe… she doesn’t like the colour so I’ll send it off to Mercian for a complete respray. We’ve agreed on pale blue metalflake.

There are two complete Campag groupsets under the bed, too. Bought one piece at a time off ebay.

I built her a carbon fibre step-through ladies bike which she likes.

TBH we each earn our own money and she’s happy I’ve got something I enjoy to do that keeps me fit. Not an issue round here.

My wife (32F) has the same issue, but she tried on a lot in various LBSs and I. The end was reasonably happy with a Castelli ladies top and another that was I think Mavic?

Stack and reach are the two
Stack and reach are the two numbers you need for comparison, as those are the dimensions you feel when you’re on the bike. Search for a geometry chart with them on for both bikes, if you can.

Buy something amazing second hand, not a ‘starter bike’. You’ll quickly get sick of something at the low end and want to upgrade. This way, you’ll start with something great, and when you get the bug, you can upgrade from there.

But if I were you I’d head straight to eBay and try to find something better, second hand. So many bargains out there, with the depreciation already done for you.
