David at DCR wheels can probably build you a nice replacement, if Hunt don’t stump up.

Yeah I’ve found that with my bike on Vittoria Rubino Pros. The bike feels much faster and livelier with a new set on.

    Current best bike. NOS

Current best bike with a few updates. NOS Colnago EPS frame 2009 model in colour scheme AKOO. This was the model before the C59 and it’s very similar. The first Colnago with a tapered steerer, the last with a threaded BB. Monstrously stiff through the bottom bracket.

Super Record off a previous bike and Bora One 50s. Deda Superleggero finishing kit. Tubolito inner tubes. Now 6.85kg with pedals.

    So my lockdown project is

This was my lockdown project, completed in 2020.

It’s a 2015 Genesis Volare 953 stainless, ex-team frame, with DA 9000 Di2 throughout. Zipp SL80 trad bend bars, Deda superleggero stem and seatpost. Campag wheels which I had already. It’s amazingly smooth like all steel frames, but also light at 7.65kg as pictured. Seems quite a stiff platform too, if not as immediately reactive as a top level carbon frame. I aways said I would never get into electronic shifting, but then the frame came with a complete Di2 wiring harness, so I’ve dived in. So far so good.

2024 update: 3 years later, and it’s my best bike for big faster miles, here on a 100 miler round North Norfolk and down to Ely last summer.

New build over this last 12

New bike, built in 2018. Brian Rourke 653 custom made frame from 2000, resprayed by Rourke for the last owner, who never built it up. It’s a beautiful colour, incredibly smooth on the road, sharp steering. I love it!
It’s sort of evolved over the last 3 years.

1st iteration: all Campag Super Record, with Shamals, a USE titanium seatpost, Deda Piega bars, 3t stem, San Marco saddle. The matching anodised bottle cages were a lucky chance find on Ebay. Weight all up with pedals was 7.25kg.

2nd iteration: Campag Chorus, 9.7kg with mudguards, Canyon seatpost, Syntace bars, and SON dynamo lights as an all weather bike. I’m still loving the lively ride and it really responds to a bit of welly. Finding it was the bike I reach for first every time.

3rd iteration: As a credit card tourer, here all loaded up for the Dunwich Dynamo 2024 and a week’s touring, with dynamo lighting and a 52/36 crankset. Just so smooth on the road.

+1 for these. Also work with Shimano.

Talking of Campag, here’s a tool for removing/replacing the spring when cleaning, servicing or repairing an 11-speed shifter (L) and another for removing the fiddly Ultra Torque retainer clip (R).

    +1 for Ekar, it’s brilliant,

+1 for Ekar, it’s brilliant, huge range, and still has that solid Campag shifting feel. Here’s my SR 52/36 x 12-29 compared to my Ekar 40 x 9-42. The big jumps are in the highest gears , and in the lowest ratios that you hardly ever use. The mid range is actually *closer* than the SR equivalent.

    What about some Pinarello

What about some Pinarello Onda forks? Not quite the classic forward curve, but certainly not straight. You could (cautiously) drill the ‘wings’ to mount mudguard stays…
