Errrmmm… ‘No! Nooo! thank you!’ to cars that might drive out in front of me
‘Come on bike, win the Tour!’ when climbing out of the saddle
And my all time favourite: ‘spin don’t lug’
Plus plenty of advice to myself ‘come ON’, the perennial ‘shut up legs’ etc.
And a lot of ‘hello sparrow/magpie/cows’ etc
Plus ‘good morning’ to cyclists overtaking, or on the occasion that I overtake others – joggers too, because otherwise they might step out into the road.

Put the shiny new group on it
Put the shiny new group on it. My other half doesn’t like used stuff – yours may differ of course. But it will be more special if it’s brand new.

If you keep searching ebay you’ll find something suitable eventually.Depends your flexibility. I’m 5’11” and ride a 55 with a long stem and setback seatpost. Feels just right.

Don’t worry about groups etc if you are new to it they will all feel amazing compared to your Peugeot. The thing to worry about is the frame. If you get on with it, and get into cycling, you can have the fun of incremental upgrades.

Don’t worry, there’s a strong and loyal Triban crowd!

I’ve got a Giordana jacket that fits that bill – I think it’s this one:

Incredibly light and packable and completely waterproof.

Much as I like Bianchis I
Much as I like Bianchis I have to admit that Trek is almost a classic already!
Isn’t that the Armstrong USPS model? (though obviously a different colour scheme).
The Bianchi has a good frame but the finishing kit is all very cheap. Worth upgrading the groupset if that’s the way you decide to go.

Campag have had the same
Campag have had the same splines since 9 speed, but they use different lock rings depending on whether the smallest is 12t or 11t.
By contrast, there were several different 8 speed splines, so there can be a few complications…

+1 for Fulcrum 5s. The
+1 for Fulcrum 5s. The stiffness is hugely impressive and they run cheap and easily-replaced cartridge bearings. At the end of the season you can get sometimes them for as low as £130 new if you look.

I’m thinking for something like Squirt and other wax based where the advice is to coat the chain and not wipe off the excess (that’s what Squirt’s packaging says!). I wonder if it would help really drive the lube into the rollers?Yes, an experiment that I will not repeat. It puts far too much lube on and I spent weeks with it dribbling out everywhere and having to be wiped down again.

Great frame £399. Bargain.
What he said. Classic frame – and you could gradually upgrade the groupset if you take to cycling.

It might be postural, or it might be a sign of incipient heart attack. Seriously, do this.

+1 for Shimano RT82 –
+1 for Shimano RT82 – incredibly comfortable and don’t look too ‘touring’ for a road bike.
Just don’t expect incredibly stiff race shoes and you’ll be happy with them.

Cos that’s what you’ll land on if they break.
