    The automotive industry

The automotive industry promotes new cars because they are the automotive industry.  Forgeting about the energy involved in manufacture.  They are still bigging up the diesel, probably relating to the lower CO2 released.  But they will all be bigger and heavier.  Why not small cars, must release less emmisions as smaller.  Are the CO2/km figures obtained on a rolling  road or do they relate to real world driving?  With proper acceleration of all that mass?  And unless there is regenerative braking slowing down is all heat, and then means more acceleration of mass.

The WD40 thing.  I know it’s not a lubricant and I would never let it near my bicycles, but, there is someting left once it evaporates isn’t there?  There is slippery stuff near the nozzle, and the refilable bottle I inherited from the workshop in my last place of work (Gents your were missed) was covered in a very slippery film.

    Rohloff do a cassete wear

Rohloff do a cassete wear checker.

    The Rohloff HG IG Check.

Odd that the people who make a hub that does away with the cassette makes a cassette checker.

Put a new chain on, if it does the slipping, clunky thing you unfortunatly need a new cassette.

    I considered the belt drive

I considered the belt drive for my current rohloff build, but not much, already going for hydrolic disc brakes, tubeless and internal gearing, I thought the gates a step too far.  Sticking with the chain drive as I know chains a bit, and my chosen frame, surly ogre doesn’t have the opening in the stays.   If I had gone for an equivilent Shand then I might have done.

It’s also easier to carry a few spare quicklinks rather than the belt,  always thinking about failure.

Real advantage of the Gates would be that my chain is only ever clean straight after cleaning and lubing, the moment my off road bit of my commute start, everything is filthy, it’s been a very muddy winter for me.

New bits make you go faster,

New bits make you go faster, new, shiny bits even faster and new, shiny, expensive bits make you go faster still.  If you can always upgrade.  She deserves it.

    Bit off tangent, but anyone

Bit off tangent, but anyone know if anyone makes a long finger very lightweight glove with pittards leather palm?  Sometimes pearl izumi do it, but they seem to have an on/off relationship with pittards.  I know that clarino wears better but the grip of pittards is fantastic.

    Park ccp-2.

    Park ccp-2.

And its much easier to remove rhe chainset to change the chainrings.  You might need a park cnw-1 to hold the other bit other than the hex side.

    If we reduce congestion too

If we reduce congestion too much then we will get less of that ever so smug satisfaction of breezing past scores of vehicles filled with frustrated motorists.
