    Unfortunately very believable

    Unfortunately very believable.

It is the responsibility of the person opening the door to check.   I thought he was going to try not to get caught doing anything dodgy.

I hope Grayling had already reported it to the police, as not to do so would be an offence.

Maybe he will now start pushing for the introduction of educating the motoring public in the Dutch Reach.

    Fibre flare did a helmet

Fibre flare did a helmet light, the Razor USB, I have used many other helmet lights and none were quite as good.

Tried to find it and it doesn’t seem to be available anymore.

They now seem to do one called  the MVP, which looks to be far brighter and longer, 4 AAAs though.

And I cannot find anyone who sells it here either.  But you could buy it from the states.

Some people on here have not had a good time with the fibre flares but I’ve not had too many problems, they have remained watertight, even the original on my seatstay.

I have used the cateye loop lights, but from many years back, the newer ones didn’t seem as ingenious, but could have been brighter.  My ones had a little magnet on the elastic which would activate the light with a tap.  It meant that they had no need for a waterproof rubber button, made them smaller.

Before them it was the busch and muller helmet lights, but they didn’t last a season, nice idea but the seperate wires all developed loose connections.  They may have worked that out by now, mine were brand new in the late 90s/early 00s.  The seperate lights can each poke out of a seperate vent.

I am a sucker for ingenious safety products.  Other bicycle things I can humm and harr about for months but for things that might help make me that little bit safer, and that have that extra bit of ingenuity,  I can justify that much easier.

    Road filth, especially winter

Road filth, especially winter road filth is our enemy.   I have seen 3 bar ali plate, used as a bottom of a storage box on an artic truck eaten through.  You can walk on that stuff, 5mm thick?  The alloy beads that make up my Nokon cables have rotted, some almost turned to powder.  (Next time oil, lots, when assembling and a good wipe regular).  A good wash before storage, perhaps.

What is it about this site that some posters have to take everything literally.

Every syllable of my comments on this story have dripped with sarcasm.

I will refuse to use emoticons, will never use textspeak and will endeavor not to swear.  These are the rules I had set myself when I decided to start commenting on this site.  I had hoped not to enter into any arguements with anyone, not even with Applecart, but your refusal to even consider to read my comment in the style in which it was intended has forced me into replying.

My post was was an attempt at satire, and a comment on some police forces’ rules on accepting video evidence.

I would love to be able to cite the bit about not going any further if a video was posted on social media, might have been on here, but it could have been on Bez’s excellent Beyond the curb, or the equally good As easy as riding a bike.  Some forces have made this declaration, it shouldn’t change the way evidence is used, unless there is serious injury involved I cannot see any of these cases going in front of a Jury.

The two minute thing came from http://road.cc/content/news/212515-metropolitan-police-beta-testing-video-upload-site-close-pass-and-other-footage  I don’t know why there is the two minute rule, there can be no justification for this sort of awful driving, but the thread came to the conclusion about provication.

I apologise for my comment going that far over your head, but with your comment on Tour de Celeb “I’d like to bust all over Amy Williams’s face” I had always considered you quite low brow.

Don’t be too annoyed, this is how drivers view “their” parking space.  If you find out who it is , you then have a workmate you can talk abot cycling.

Layers.  And next time when you are allowed, and if you feel you need it, the full winter jacket.  But layering is always more versatile.

       Park do the CNW2, similar

Park do the CNW2, similar to the BBB tool, managed to misplace it when I really needed it, got a screwdriver type one from Evans, I think, similar to the Icetools one, Evans now do the FWE one which does look even better.  There are some advantages to the screwdriver type, and it is never an easy job, the extra distance your fingers get from the pointy chainrings is good.

If you run a triple it’s almost guaranteed the bolt will be behind a tooth of the granny.

My XTR M970 uses floaty light Torx T30 bolts, so I need 2 tools for the outer bolts.  And from personal experience I know the inner bolts love to crossthread.  Progress…

       Always be nice to the

Always be nice to the guard, smile, good morning/afternoon/evening.  Talk to them, you might be alowed on this one…

If they say no, accept with good grace and try the next one.  Same as if it’s too busy and you really shouldn’t.

Sometimes it was too busy on my FGW Reading to North Camp, on which the bicycle was permitted. Would be nice and ask the guard if I could get on the SWT to Wokingham, on which I was not allowed, and they never said no (always very empty, huge train).  I’d have to wait 20 minutes at Wokingham, then the next FGW would show up, crowded, half would get  out, and I’d get on to North Camp, or Farnborough North.  Sorted.

It can even work on the big trains, though local stoppers are easier,  politeness and pleasantness can get you far, especially if kind of genuine.
