He’s trying to argue with TheRantyHighwayman, who does the road thing for a living and has been for a good amount of time.

His blog occasionally gets a bit technical but is a good read, with a new article almost every week.

I’m a very big fan of the courier bag, very good access and some can be massive, but compressable and with the correct straps, stable.  And pouches can be added to the strap, utility belt style.

Timbuk II were a favorite, but their present range seem wanting.  I have yet to decide which bag to get next, I sort of need one.

There is not the sense of

There is not the sense of community on Singletrack and Off-Road.cc is not even singletrack.

I’m a utility MTBer, this is so much more my home.

That just seem to be a bit of

That just seem to be a bit of paint wear on that, when a chainring wears it gets proper pointy.

They are “ramped” to enable the gears to change.

I got a very old and faded 90ish purple middleburn big ring.  Ebay, it was purple. All the teeth are the same and there is quite a knack of getting the chain onto it.

Just looking at the front of the lorry, I see that the driver has chosen to obscure his already limited view out of his huge front window by placing a hard hat right in the middle.

The Royal Mail was forced to have to accept bulk mail from rival companies and lose money doing the last part “to door” delivery.

That was never the “Free” market.

    Set up to fail.

Lots of talcum powder will make everything a bit slippery and helps get the bead on and get in place.

Also meant to lower rolling resistance.

It doesn’t hurt it at least…

I’m still going to hold on

I’m still going to hold on and wear them under long sleeved jersys, just in case.  We could still get another little burst of warmth.

Might put my thinnest summer gloves away though, there only really good for the mid twenties up.

Bit spendy I will admit, but this trick stem featured in fgf in singletrack last week.  Notice the built in trail bell.  And yours for only £260 .

As I understand it the trains

As I understand it the trains in this country have become incredibly safe, leaving the road model and adopting the aircraft level and need for safety.  Until the unfortunate deaths caused by the landslide in Scotland there hadn’t been any passenger deaths caused by crashes for ages.  Trying to find exact numbers, best I could come up with were 10 years without passenger or stall deaths in accident in 2017.  The search also came up with NO passenger deaths on the massive Indian rail network in 2019, which is very impressive.

But until Boeing’s wonderful new airliners flew themselves into the scenery I don’t believe there had been a jet crash for over a year, Trump claimed the safety thing of course, but the 737 crashes obviously had nothing to do with him.

If you ride upstream on the Kennet, on the NCN 4, from Reading, you go past both Burfield Farm and Aldermarston Warf and Lock, don’t know how it’s relevent to this discussion, as my OS map shows absolutely nothing there, but there are some big fences, and security notices and some amazing lighting at night.

Ebay for NOS cassettes, it’s where I tend to source my 8 speed XT and 9 speed XTR.  You have to keep your eye on it and expect to pay premium for what are becoming very rare consumables.

I happened upon this site today

    https://www.retro-himmel.de/

They seem to have been hoarding box fresh goods from some time ago and are charging rather a lot, or stuff he picked up a little while back when relatively cheap.  Lots of very colourful 90s mountain bike candy.

Sometimes it seems like a quest, lots of google searches, and going through many pages with different search phrases.  Get an exploded view and there may be a few single cogs out there if you don’t need the whole thing.

There does seem to be more parts available in the US, and mainland Europe.

I have never chanced second hand cassettes or rims.

On chainsets and chainrings wear is much more obvious.
