Personally, I haven’t seen evidence that the Daily Fail has improved upon its “reporting” over the last 80 years or so. Wikipedia’s refusal to accept it as a source of facts is certainly based upon its more recent shenanigans.

Here’s a street view of the Bristol-Bath cycle path, so they do do some of them: https://www.google.com/maps/@51.4614126,-2.5622799,3a,75y,63.01h,81.21t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sAF1QipNm9p6HLLMwzU6Sf3sQxXFLQli49QsDbeLE4vM!2e10!3e11!7i7680!8i3840

I can’t recall seeing any mainstream press covering the issue of pollution inside vehicles, but there’s been plenty of messaging about cyclists needing to wear hi-viz and helmets. It’s almost as if there’s an agenda being followed. When you consider that the number of drivers/passengers is far greater than the number of cyclists, it would seem to me to be a public health issue that needs public information films and the like.

Just resurected this as it was almost a general TV thread.

Andor. Brilliant TV and not just as Star Wars. Great attention to detail, some terrific acting and lots of grey rather then just black and white for both sides of the conflict.

That’s possibly my favourite current series although I’m really enjoying “All of Us Are Dead” which is a Korean zombie series. The fight choreography is superb along with some excellent zombie acting.

I’m a big fan of Rick’n’Morty too. All the leaves on the ground are due to a ‘false autumn’ from the unusual heat.

I liked the episode where Morty could hear the squirrels plotting…

I like the way that Rick instantly knows that there’s no point in trying to fight them and immediately ditches that entire universe.

I’m also enjoying Andor – the plot really picks up after the first few episodes.

For those rotors you need resin pads…. if you want mixed pads or different pads to Resin then get some other rotors…

This is complete nonsense. The Ultegra rotors are fine with metallic and resin pads.

It’s the higher end rotors (including Ultegra) that are rated for use with metallic and resin pads. The cheaper ones which presumably use softer alloys are specified for resin pads only as otherwise the rotors would wear too quickly and fail quicker than a hollow-bonded crank.

And so it was back in the ’80s when I worked there. Eg A Raleigh Burner BMX would come with red, yellow or blue tyres, but we had no stock of these. There were sets of rad pads, but they weren’t Raleigh. I still can hear Nigel the cycle floor manager saying “take one off another one, mate” – we often cannibalised.

    That seems extreme.

    Oh, you meant the bikes

One maybe for our tool addicted squirrel friend, well I have finally discovered a multi tool featuring a Japanese Industry Standard (2) pattern screwdriver, there is a multitool article when I had asked. Bit late for me as I now have a workshop tool (shipped from Japan at a very reasonable rate) and I have moved on from Shimano to Rohloff and Hope on my every day ride. Was looking at a very nice green disk trueing tool at those good people at Abbeytools and scrolled through their fine collection.  The JIS is one of the many options, and it’s in green, of course.

I did buy some JIS bits (standard hex drive) ages ago, but haven’t wanted to use them yet – less fettling required with Di2, but I’ve got them for when I need them. That multitool does look very shiny, so my inner goblin is intrigued and I’ll likely check out their catalogue. From the pictures, it looks like that multitool doesn’t split into two pieces which is a shame as it’s a slightly awkward shape.

Two reasons. Firstly the rates are not uniformly applied. A band D property in one area will pay a completely different rate to a band D property in another area. The effect of this is that in areas with lower house prices council tax is higher relative to house value so the ‘rate’ is effectively higher. Secondly, the bands don’t continue increasing infinitely. There is a maximum value, above with everybody pays the same rate. If you own a £20m property you pay the same rate as a £1m property giving the very wealthiest a much lower effective ‘rate’. Higher rates for the poorest, lower rates for the richest. Regressive. A tax of x% of house value per year would be fairer. If the % increased with value or x% of first £200,000, x+1% of next £200,000, then x+2% for value above that (in a similar way to stamp duty) then it would be progressive.

I’d go for that. Maybe have an increased rate for buy-to-let properties so that property hoarders are penalised for properties that they don’t live in.

I saw a predicion by Lloyds the other day that property prices are likely to reduce by about 8% over the next few years, so that’s going to make for interesting times when combined with rising interest rates.

Unfortunately, I can see it affecting the younger generation disproportionately as they’re the ones struggling to save enough for a mortgage deposit and then once they’ve finally managed to wrangle a mortgage deal, they get hit by negative equity.
