    Usually the trainer comes

Usually the trainer comes with a skewer that has domed ends on. I’ve used one on everything from a kids mountain bike to an adult road bike, so the axle length is not a problem. There is a mating clamp on the trainer that docks onto them, so the axle is held at each end. The trainer should come with some device to allow it to fit different wheel sizes.

You will want to get a turbo tyre. A standard MTB tyre will make an entertaining noise and spray rubber up the wall.

Check the skewer thickness precisely. I got a ‘bargain ‘ wheelset once that only takes a really thin skewer.

Plenty on ebay- get a second hand one and you can look up the manufacturer’s spec on their website.

Humbrol is a good shout. Alternatively you could take it to Debenhams and find a nail varnish. You could also get your nails done to match.

    Brake discs are standard

Brake discs are standard sizes. If you have a 160mm at the moment, any other 160 mm will do. They are fitted with 6 bolts or a  Centrelock  to the hub. All that matters here is the disc you choose has the matching fitting for the hub on your new wheel.

I had a look at something

I had a look at something similar for our GoRide club. In the end we went with commercial ant+ sensors and a laptop with dongle, but whilst that was OK it didn’t really do what I wanted.  The available free software was a bit poor. Your approach sounds better.

You can basically just plug the Hall effect sensor directly to a pin on the Arduino.

I split a rim at the weld

I split a rim at the weld battering down a rocky trail on the CX bike. When I set the replacement up tubeless, there were little bubbles coming through the weld. Back in my aerospace days that weld would have failed at NDT, but maybe rims are a different spec.

    Pad wear

<straw clutch> Pad wear leading to pistons out further than usual, and getting stuck out, so less clearance? Then pad is detecting slight flex in frame.

Callipers moved slightly on mounts? </straw clutch>

I ordered a Stans kit, which was missing a valve because Stans didn’t seal their pack properly. Sent pictures, new valve next day.

On the other hand, was expecting another order yesterday, but it appears they scanned it for pick and pack but didn’t actually dispatch, so although they did a next day post charge refund, my order won’t get here for the weekend. #firstworldproblems

Also, Canyon do very small sizes. I’ve just got eldest daughter  a Spectral WMN in 2XS, and she is impressed with it.

    Thanks for that Sheldon Brown

Thanks for that Sheldon Brown link, an interesting read as always. If it was mine I’d try lashing up one of those straightening jigs, just as a fun project. Nothing to lose.
