Context and motivation, innit. Allowing for the fact that I was way younger in 1997 when Ginger Spice wore THAT dress, it seems to me the mood was completely different to now.an iconic moment for all the right reasons. (See also: Cool Britannia London Olympics 2012.)

I hate to say it, but the St George’s flag is at present pretty much the property of racist wankpuffins.

Last time I looked, this
Last time I looked, this scheme was too complicated to survive in the wild – whatever you do for drivers, whatever concessions you make, they’ll always point to a situation you hadn’t covered; you try to come up with a remedy and so on. The ULEZ scheme in London has a simplicity about it for example.

A great day out there then: where cars will always eventually end up:
Lake District: Calls for action on tourist traffic
“Sadly, this uncontrolled mass tourist traffic is further degrading the area we live in damaging the infrastructure, and environment to boot, and is hollowing out communities.
“Simple things like being able to get in and out of your own property that others take for granted, we cannot.
EDIT I can’t stop thinking about orange t shirt guy – he looks like he’s had enough and he’s jolly well going to speak to someone about it in a minute if things don’t get moving soon

One more parking space will
One more parking space will fix it (STPP) at Croome Park as the National Trust plays its usual incrementalist trick of making seasonal overflow parking permanent.
Also they do a nice word salad in the cafe:
“Whilst our plans will create a small increase in total parking spaces, this is not the primary purpose. Our aim is to provide an improved visitor experience by upgrading our infrastructure to deliver a car park that can be used all year round, an increase in DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) compliant parking spaces and the provision of 8 electric vehicle charging bays, of which we currently have none. If planning is granted, we hope to start work early 2026.”
This place is pretty much inaccessible to anyone not in a car. Silence on that.

Tourist can’t deal with Cornwall’s country roads
There are some things tourists just aren’t prepared for
The tourist shared part of her journey by uploading a short video on TikTok, adding a screaming voice effect in the background along with on-screen text stating: “Go to Cornwall they said, it will be fun they said.”
Motorists might discover themselves trapped 😱 behind a tractor, delivery lorry, local bus or merely a cautious driver, with overtaking frequently impossible. Proper road manners prove vital in Cornwall

Council ‘ignoring people’ over Oxford congestion charge
https://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/25405922.council-ignoring-people-oxford-congestion-charge/
One to watch here in the next few days. Somewhat depressing that Labour are opposing the Lib Dems here:
‘The statement added that people needed “accessible alternatives” to car travel and that the council should bring buses back into public control rather than “asking Oxfordshire’s poorest to pay charges they can’t afford”.’

England flags appear on Worcester city streets for ‘unity’
Reform UK leaders, including Joanne Monk, leader of Worcestershire County Council, have also spoken in support of people flying the flag.
Mr Conway (organiser), a scrap trader, said he was proud to be English and British and added: “We love everybody. It’s about love and unity, nothing else.”
His sentiments were echoed by 59-year-old former builder, Paul Bullock, who said: “We are proud of what it means to be English. It’s not racism. We’re not football hooligans. My father fought in World War Two in the Navy, my uncle in Burma.”
